Inherently dishonest people always imagine that others are as dishonest as they are.

I could identify most any car on the road by make and year and usually model. Some of the year to year changes were subtle, but you could recognize them. Now, all cars have one of only three or four profiles, few distinguishing features, and little change from year to year. They've got "generations".
But yes, today's cars are much better in lots of ways - just not as much interest and fun.

Re: The car thread ...
I always liked how a lot of cars gas tank filler caps were under a hinged license plate holder (logical since it's the shortest way to get fuel into the tank). And I remember one of my mom's friends had a Buick convertible with fins on the back and the left side tail light was hinged and the gas cap was under there. That made me always look at at that woman as something other than normal verging on weird or maybe awesome. I was about five years old. But she was a redhead and her name was Ruth. Looking back on it now, Ruth in her Buick convertible and red hair probably made a good impression just about anywhere....I think it said "Rocket" on the side of it but am not sure. A 56 model I think. No, probably a 58.O Really wrote: ↑Sun Aug 08, 2021 10:36 amI could identify most any car on the road by make and year and usually model. Re: The car thread ...
So SIL built a couple of cars for a customer who had more money than wisdom, one a '57 Chevy and the other a '70 Chevelle. The guy ("Duke") kept the '57 in his winter home in Arizona, and the Chevelle in Coeur d'Alene. Last year, he had to get a lot of re-do on the '57 because he left it outdoors in a hail storm. Also, he had let his son take out the Chevelle and he put a Darlington stripe all the way down one side from a missed curve guardrail. So SIL renovates the '57, changing the paint scheme to a really nice burgundy/silver because Duke's daughter wanted WSU colors. Meanwhile, SiL's doing the repair/restoration on the Chevelle, which involved a complete re-paint because the paint was a custom blend color with sparkles. And then Duke, who had been in poor health while he was spending all this money on the toy cars, died, leaving the cars to his daughter and son (the "Offspring.") So the Offspring want to take the cars to the Good Guys Northwest show https://www.good-guys.com/gnwn coming up this weekend and they bring the Chevelle to SIL to show-prep. Chevelle is buffed, polished, cleaned and looking good and the son picks it up at the shop. Most people with a show-prepped car would leave it covered until time to go to the show, but son decides to join an informal cruise. Bad decision.

I think it was as painful for SIL, who had built the car three times, as for the idiot owner.

Hope he's up for time #4.
Thx, I never noticed that. I've only added from imgur.

Re: The car thread ...
Oh, he'll do it as long as they pay for it.
70ish Chevelles are plentiful and parts are easy to come by. His shop will have the front end off and rebuilt pretty quickly. But they'll have to spend time on the paint again. And you can't see it in the pic, but it's got some fairly intricate striping. It would have been a different story if it had been a more unique car. SIL likes to think of himself as a northern version of a reincarnated George Barris. He might be mistaken with that, but he and his crew really are good.

Cadillac Driver Ignores Barriers Around Waterworks Repairs, Instantly Regrets it
Safety cones are there for a reason.
Opps. Is anyone else extra tickled that the car is a Cadillac?

It is. Or was. Or will be. More of a re-construction than originally expected. Something about crappy paint and incompetent base. You know how technicians and experts of all skills always seem to trash-mouth whoever's work they're following.

Re: The car thread ...
It appears to be a solid car. And the worst paint on the planet can be ground off without too much effort. Just takes a little more time. "Incompetent base" is a term I would ascribe to the trump crowd....never heard paint described that way. He probably meant "incompatible." Anyway, be sure and show us how it ends up.
