So Vikings coach and owner are "concerned" because of the number of players refusing to get vaccinated.

Aren't there probably 10 guys behind every position that could do a decent job and be happy not to put the team at risk of game forfeiture? Why are the wringing their hands and whining. What's wrong with saying "I may not be able to boot you off the team, but I can promise that without a vaccination you're not going to get anywhere close to the field."

Off the top of my head - options are limited by player contracts, the union, salaries that must be paid, roster limits and salary caps. All of these things can probably be overcome, but it will take time in our new pandemic reality.O Really wrote: ↑Wed Aug 04, 2021 12:14 pmSo Vikings coach and owner are "concerned" because of the number of players refusing to get vaccinated.

I wonder if outing the anti-vaxxers, thus leading to public shaming AND fewer endorsement deals, would be a useful tactic.

NFL isn't college ball. The drop off between starters and reserves is often precipitous.
Maybe it's something in the water in Minnesota, but the league is at about 90% vaccinated. They've put the hammer down on ostracizing non vaccinated players.

Sure, where you have a superstar league-leading guy, the drop is steep, but even in that case, teams adjust and manage when injuries occur or whatever. But I'm thinking in most positions, the next guy down is still better than the forfeiture risk - or for that matter the guy you've been protecting for his irrational non-vaxxing gets covid and the next guy down plays anyway.

Besides, it ought to be a league rule. These people make rules on the color of shoes guys can wear and whose logo can appear. Surely they could say "no vax, no play."

Better than forfeiture, sure. But ask Patrick MaHomes how much he liked playing behind a backup O-line in the last Superbowl.O Really wrote: ↑Wed Aug 04, 2021 12:55 pmSure, where you have a superstar league-leading guy, the drop is steep, but even in that case, teams adjust and manage when injuries occur or whatever. In the NFL everything is secondary to wins. That's the reason they have such a high vaccination rate. They're literally making unvaccinated players wear a badge of shame. That's why Cole Beasley still has a job in Buffalo. He's marginally better than average despite being an idiot. As long as he doesn't become a distraction or a detriment to the team they'll keep him.

Congrats to da Bears, GoCubsGo.
I don't know where the Seahawk players were last night. Certainly not on the field. But Chucky's LV Traitors weren't really much better.

Jaguars release (tight end) Tim Tebow after 1 preseason game
The lord works in mysterious ways. I'll bet that right-wing xtian social media is on fire with claims of an anti-xtian conspiracy. Poor babies.
Falcons say they're first NFL team to reach 100% COVID-19 vaccination rate among players

Raiders become 2nd NFL team to require proof of vaccination at games
The Las Vegas Raiders joined the New Orleans Saints in requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination for fans to attend games, though there are some key differences in the rules.
The Raiders announced their new policy for Allegiant Stadium on Monday. The team will require all attendees to show proof of vaccination via the CLEAR Health Pass and mobile app, which it says will allow fans to attend games without wearing a mask.
Unvaccinated fans will also be offered vaccinations on site, but will still be required to wear a mask during the game....
The Raiders' rules differs from what the Saints announced last week. At the Superdome, fans will be allowed to enter if they have proof of vaccination or a negative PCR test from the past 72 hours. All fans will also be required to wear masks regardless of vaccination status.
The Raiders have been consistently aggressive in pushing for the vaccine inside their walls. The organization required all full-time employees in its business and football staffs to be vaccinated back in May, and its vaccination rate for players is among the highest in the league.

Yep.Other teams in the vicinity of 100 percent could have done the same thing, but those teams have unvaccinated players who are regarded as too valuable to the broader mission of winning as many games as possible.
It had been believed that most if not all players firmly in the bottom rungs of the roster would get vaccinated in order to enhance their chances of making it to the 53-man roster or the 16-man practice squad. Not so for the two players whom the Falcons released.

I want #8.

I predict #6 or #7.
The rest really suck, which probably means that I should predict one of them. It's still Snyder's team, after all.

Re: NFL Football
Ouch.Trubisky shines as Bills roll past Bears with 41-15 win
Even if it was a preseason game, Buffalo quarterback Mitchell Trubisky gained possibly a small measure of satisfaction at Soldier Field on Saturday.
Trubisky led the Bills on four touchdown drives in their first four possessions against his former team in a 41-15 preseason victory over the Bears.
Greeted by Chicago fans with a mix of both boos and cheers, Trubisky finished 20 of 28 for 221 yards with a touchdown and played the entire first half. He led six scoring drives in all and the Bills (2-0) went into the locker room leading 34-6.
... Chicago GM Ryan Pace made Trubisky the second pick of the 2017 draft and he guided their offense during two playoff games in the past three years.
However, the Bears (1-1) decided not to pick up Trubisky’s fifth-year contract option and let him leave in free agency after the 2020 season....

No, but up until he had his covid "misunderstanding issue" he was proclaimed solidly by Belichick to be the starter - and no matter what still on the team. "Personal choice" can be expensive.
