What are you watching?

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

I bet that box of lettuce is pretty ripe. Or it could be bananas. Good thing it's tilted to drain the sludge.
Yeah, but check out that CRT TV, bet it still works.

Sludge lettuce and thick tv go together. Throw in some sour milk and live it up.

Anyone ever get the feeling someone is a bit of a hoarder?

Perhaps you are?

Although one must admire the way the gentleman in the photo has built another shelf, extended, on top of the wire rack poles. This shows real ingenuity and determination.

Looks like a Sony Trinitron. So it probably still works.

Been about 15 years since I plugged mine in. Probably still works as well.

Good news: the new remote for the LCD (not CRT) TV in my study, where all the fun happens, is working better than expected. I was having to open up the old remote and apply conductive paint to the rubber button bits. I have not opened up this one to see if it is better constructed than the original one, and probably won't until it too dies and needs internal fussing. But, since it was less than $10, next time I place an Amazon order I'll probably order another one, just in case.

Meanwhile I still haven't hooked up the gizmo, although I have figured out a way of testing it without having to involve the Roku thingie.

As you might suspect, I'm in no hurry.

Just for fun, I thought I'd see if I could find a video clip for you. Apparently not, even though there are other stills with Fred or Fred and Barney watching the Stones on TV. I guess a band named "Rolling Stones" would have to be a natural recurring character.

I'd love to have an old tube amp like any of those. However by the time I was able to afford good equipment, like in the mid-70's, tubes were passé, and everything I acquired was solid state. I still have a couple three old tube radios, but haven't turned any of them on in years. Even have an old RCA brand console combo record player/radio, which sits on the floor in my LR and pretty much is just a curiosity.

So, the tubes are not happening here. At least not at the audiophile level.

None of those things in that photo are amplifiers nor are they any sort of sound reproduction equipment. It's all testing or measuring equipment. And tubes were still pretty popular and prevalent through most of the 70's and early 80's. They sort of fell out of favor over the past forty years or so.....mainly because most people no longer sit and "listen" to music like we all used to when a new album came out. But I still do. And the general consensus among audiophiles is that tubes are superior to transistors when it comes to reproducing musical signals. This is mainly because of how they operate. The simple explanation is that tubes emphasize even order harmonics (which the human ear experiences as "good") but transistors emphasize odd order harmonics, which the human ear does not like. All of this is why I have a t shirt that says "Revolt against the solid state" way before any of this "deep state" shit came along. Anyone interested in my involvement with sound reproduction during the 80's and more recently can google "watkins WE-1 loudspeaker" which is from 82 or "watkins generation 4" which is from 2017. It's possible you'll see a photo of me and my name in print.

Useless, are you having a hissy fit because neoplacebo called out your amplifier ignorance, and why are you dissing O Really by dishonestly altering his post? Also, goofball, neoplacebo is proud of his throwback electronics, which sound excellent, btw. You only lose by being so sensitive over the mild teasing you're getting.

Some of that stuff in the photo could also possibly be radio transmission or reception "amplifiers." But without seeing the labels on the devices it's hard to tell. I just know that none of them are stereo or sound equipment. Tubes in sound reproduction devices, to me, confirm the old adage that if it's not broke, don't fix it. A real world example; the first car I ever had, a 65 VW, had a sunroof. The crank on that sunroof was exactly like the crank on the sunroof of the 86 VW Jetta I bought. After that, sunroofs became electrically operated. Then the problems.

We get a free Apple TV+ with our T-Mobile subscription. New. Haven't tried it yet.
I actually forgot I have access to it also. I'll give it a gander.
Season 1 of Ted Lasso is funny stuff.

Gawd, you were so effin right. Great show.

I binged season 1 in 24 hours. I'll probably be caught up on season 2 tomorrow.

The show won the first two Emmy's tonight.
