COVIDiots

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

I've seen comments about various social media postings to the effect of "if there's no video, it didn't happen." So Nikki Menaj's unnamed "cousin" says he has a "friend" who has swollen balls that may or may not exist and may or may not have been related to a vaccine that he may or may not have received. And there's this big uproar by the anti-vaxxers. Didn't anybody bother to take the same common approach as when anybody claims to have sunk a basket from across the street. Like, who is this guy, where's pics of the balls. We want pics of the balls and his vax card. She even got interviewed about posting that and they didn't ask for any evidence.
The story should be:

What idiotic excuse for a news network gave what idiotic assignment to what idiot of a journalist?
Trump: “We had the safest border in the history of our country - or at least recorded history. I guess maybe a thousand years ago it was even better.”

If I had a nationally syndicated column out of Miami Herald, I might have written this article. Fortunately, Leonard Pitts did it for me.

Just to clear things up here...

When I used the term "CC", I was referring to the nom de plume of a BRD regular who goes by the handle Cades Cove over on LNF. I thought everyone knew that. Silly me. So, in my world, CC == Cades Cove. Bearing in mind that I'm not even vaguely familiar with the antics of various city council persons in the Deep South.

M'Kay? Or is this all just water under the bridge? Gawd, I hope so.

But the point you originally missed is that Vrede didn't call "CC" or any forum poster an asshole. He called the main character in the article, a city council member in Alabama, an asshole. A cursory scan of the post with its quotes and links could have seemed the "asshole" applied to CC, but a closer reading and a consideration of the context clearly shows the asshole in the article was the asshole to whom Vrede directed his comment. Water under the bridge.

OK, not to belabor the point, but on 9-18-21 Vrudy stated in response to GCG,

""the lord" gave you scientists and mask makers, asshole."

To which I responded,

" CC can be annoying, but I wouldn't go so far as call him an "asshole". "

Why? Well, because GCG has an account over on LNF named Cades Cove, for which CC is a quick reference.

From there things went out of control, but not from anything I wrote. Vrudy assumed that I was referring to some obscure city councilman as "CC", which I surely was not. Then he proceeded to accuse me of defending that councilman, taking his side, etc. which is completely ridiculous. I told him as much, but that didn't cool his jets.

Then Vrudy deepened the attack, stating,

"It's big of you to admit that your defense of anti-vaxxer supporting Decatur, AL Council rep Hunter Pepper makes you "pro-pandemic." I agree, and IMO pro-pandemic people are assholes."

When I protested that I had no idea who or what "Hunter Pepper" is, and thus I could not possible be defending him, and he goes even further to accuse me of being "pro-pandemic"...

To which I quite logically and honestly responded,

" I don't recall EVER voicing any support for any anti-vaxxer, and I don't know who the FUCK "Hunter Pepper" is."

Then Vrudy decided to up he ante with,

"Now deny, divert or run away, Useless. You always do."

Huh?

Then GCG steps in (unwisely) and asks innocently,

"Who's CC?"

I then proceeded to PM GCG. It took multiple emails to get him to admit that he is known as Cades Cove over on LNF and I *think* I convinced him that I was using CC as an abbreviation for Cades Cove and hence by saying I didn't think CC is an asshole I was in fact defending GCG here. What's the saying that comes to mind?

"No good deed goes unpunished"...

Then some time elapsed and O Really waded in with,

"But the point you originally missed is that Vrede didn't call "CC" or any forum poster an asshole. He called the main character in the article, a city council member in Alabama, an asshole. To which I refer to the line in the post that Vrudy addressed specifically to GCG and said,

"""the lord" gave you scientists and mask makers, asshole."

There was no qualification that he was referring to to Hunter Pepper or whoever that asshole was. So I gave a very mild rebuke, in fact defending GCG, saying he could be annoying for sure but not exactly an asshole, at least not in my understanding of the term.

And thus for coming to an admittedly lukewarm defense of GCG I got to enjoy all sorts of irrational attacks upon my political beliefs and etc. But really I've come to expect that from Vrudy. It's why I put him back on Ignore.

And now that I've driven this into the ground, I really don't want to know any more about Mr. Pepper or anything going on in that Goddam City Council.

I will however continue to use CC as an abbreviation for GCG's alter ego. So sue me.

C'mon, man. "CC" posted quotes from an article about the idiot councilman. One of the quotes attributed to the idiot councilman referred to "the lord." CC never mentioned anything about a lord, a lady, or a horse in waiting. In response to the quote that "CC" posted, Vrede specifically referenced "the lord" as stated not by "CC" but as a quote by the idiot councilman. "Asshole" was not directed at "CC" personally, but toward a person referenced in the article he posted.

We've all done it. Somebody posts an article about a "Florida Man" doing something stupid. I might respond with "Idiot" or "Asshole," but that wouldn't be directed toward the poster. It would clearly refer to the person in the article.

This is just bizarre.

As I explained to Usless in that idiotic PM chain that's as non sensical as this whole portion of the thread I stated that I was done with this conversation until for reasons only known to his obsessive little brain revived it, that I had zero frame of reference for the context of CC in his post and no reason to think there was any form of correlation as it was out of left field. But apparently I was supposed to be some sort of freaking clairvoyant.

It's no big secret or big deal that my username is Cades Cove on LNF, those that post on both boards know it and those that don't probably don't care. I posed the question in this thread of who is CC because I was perplexed and did not think Vrede was calling me an asshole and was looking for clarification.

During the course of the PM's Useless in a very accusatory way asks if I'm Cades Cove something he's known for at least three years back to when he was booted off the old LNF for being an out of control obsessed asshole, something not easy to do because the old admin there was pretty tolerant. I offered to loan him a sock over there that I had set up and never used and he promptly changed the password when I offered to loan it to someone else also. Whatever.

So I'm asked by Useless if I am Cades Cove or not, I reply yeah, you've known that and then I'm asked again "Are you or are you not Cades Cove on LNF?"

Dude WTF? Yor really need to get a life outside of these forums, 17,000 plus posts on LNF in 15 months plus however many here? It's no secret you are up all night posting incessantly this is just another weird example of you resurrecting a dead topic for no reason at all other than a strange compulsion after I told you a week ago that I was done with this conversation because it's inane and no one else here really cared.

Take a walk, take a bike ride, make some friends, find some peace and happiness for your own good.

So I know a bit about cops and their unions, having negotiated contracts, investigated/resolved grievances, and even had some donuts with them. Their refusal in significant numbers to get vaccinated is stranger than strange. We can start at one end, that cops don't like unilateral rules that aren't negotiated as a part of or addendum to their contract. So if you (the city) tell them they have to eat Dunkin and can no longer order in Krispy Kreme, they'll scream that it's an unnegotiated and arbitrary change in working conditions - even if all of them eat Dunkin anyway. But the other end of the spectrum is that cops really like things that make them safer, and they think whatever is available, they should get the best and get it first - particularly before those slackers in the fire house get it. They want newer better vests, riot gear, bigger guns, better shoes, the best communication devices, country club-level weight rooms and and fast cars. Now, they don't get everything they want, but they definitely have a "want the best - want it first" approach. So if you tell them there's this virus running around that anybody they stop can make them maybe deathly sick their most likely response should normally be "we want a vaccine and we want it now. And if there's no vaccine we want the best masks, face shields, and gloves." And sure, there may be a few that think they're going to be magnetized or chipped, but under any past pattern of police behaviour, those should be out shouted by the ones who want the best and want it first. Strange times we live in.

Because my overriding goal is to maintain an equanimous atmosphere, I hereby retract that assertion.

Go figure.

My impression is that some cops operate in their own little insular world, where they are in perpetual distrust of anyone who isn't a cop. On one level, that makes sense, since their daily duties may involve interactions with truly dangerous members of the public. But on another level, for a cop to distrust everyone who isn't a cop is somewhat self-defeating, if the goal is to maintain public order, because public order is dependent upon a certain level of mutual trust and respect.
