Seems the hapless 'Heels were originally #10.
Good questions. Idk. Is there some mechanism creating greater parity, or one creating dumber sports writers?
Speaking of UNC and the U, a scoreless tie would seem appropriate, symbolic of the futility of their seasons. Sure, 3-3 and even 2-3 isn't a total washout, and there was the Dook stomping, but the lack of consistency and uncanny ability to lose to a supposedly lesser team doth not bode well for the rest of the season.
So, you're rooting for equal frustration today?![]()
Finally. Forget everything bad that I've said about him, today was the Bo Show.
I was just curious which you were more loyal to.
Florida (20) 42 @LSU 49 Wild shootout. Buh-bye Top 25.
Oh, that would be Carolina. Football weekends in law school were more likely spent in the library, at least the first year, than out carousing about the game.
Congrats. That was crazy. Both teams did everything they could to lose. In the end Miami was better at it.
I'm no 6-1 Baylor fan, but I love seeing 5-2 BYU (19) lose, 38-24.Vrede too wrote: ↑Sat Oct 16, 2021 10:22 amGO:

Oh, how the mighty have fallen, 7-24.

The ACC's offensive power houses, 45-42.![]()
11 Kentucky (6-0) > 1 @Georgia (6-0) Nope, 13-30.
5 @Montana (4-1) > Sacramento St (3-2)
Sacramento St 28, (former) 5 Montana 27. Arrrggghhh.

Nope.
College football Week 7 winners and losers: Clemson, Florida and Texas lead our list of most disappointing teams
... None of the teams listed below will be near the top of the CFP rankings on Nov. 2, though a few of them were expected to be near the summit at the beginning of the year. Here are our 10 most disappointing teams of the 2021 season so far.
Clemson (4-2)
... The Tigers have scored fewer than 20 points in four of five games against FBS opponents and squeaked past Syracuse 17-14 on Friday night....
Ouch, they're talking to YOU, O Really.Florida (4-3)
Indiana (2-4)
LSU (4-3)
Miami (2-4)
North Carolina (4-3)
... While UNC has flashed promise — the Tar Heels beat Virginia by 20 and dominated Duke — this is a team that was clearly overrated to start the season. And could end up at 6-6....
Texas (4-3)
USC (3-3)
Washington (2-4)
The Huskies entered the season as the betting favorite to win the Pac-12 and promptly opened the season with a loss to FCS-level Montana.
A loss at Michigan in Week 2 followed that and the Huskies have also lost to Oregon State and UCLA on Saturday night.
A stagnant offense has been the culprit as Dylan Morris has completed less than 60 percent of his passes and the rushing game is nothing special. Washington’s defense has held up its end of the bargain, but conference favorites should be good on both sides of the ball. Just ask Clemson.
Not a fan, but I respect a non-Power 5 team that reaches #3 or #2.Wisconsin (3-3)
WINNERS
Oklahoma State
Purdue
Auburn: ... Auburn is now 5-2 on the year with its only losses coming on the road to Penn State and against top-ranked Georgia. With Ole Miss, Texas A&M and Alabama still on the schedule, the Tigers could make some noise in the second half of the season.
Cincinnati: The third-ranked Bearcats took care of business at home against UCF, and now could be poised to move up in the rankings following Iowa’s loss....
Georgia TE Brock Bowers
Pittsburgh: It’s time to get Pitt into the Top 25. The Panthers improved to 5-1 and 2-0 in ACC play by beating Virginia Tech 28-7 on the road. Pitt has one of the best quarterbacks in the country in Kenny Pickett. He threw for 203 yards and two TDs and added a rushing TD in the win. He’s got 1,934 yards and 21 touchdowns with just one interception this year....
It's god's will.Ole Miss
Baylor
Utah
South Carolina QB Zeb Noland
LOSERS
Iowa
Nebraska
Florida DC Todd Grantham
Justin Fuente: Another coach firmly on the hot seat is Justin Fuente at Virginia Tech....
Manny Diaz: The pressure has also turned up on Manny Diaz at Miami....
Missouri
Duke
Arizona
Liberty
In their defense it's disappointing to many more people, as measured against preseason rankings and last year's performance.O Really wrote: ↑Sun Oct 17, 2021 12:21 pmSo let's see if I get this straight: Somebody, maybe the author of the article or somebody similar, made guesses about how good some teams would be before those teams had played a single down in the season. Then, when their guesses proved wrong, they blame the teams for being "disappointing." Then instead of a nice responsibility-taking first person, it's "...team that was clearly overrated to start the season." And by whom, might we ask? That would be you....
Yeppers. In every coverage of toronados, somebody's gotta say "sounded just like a freight train."Vrede too wrote: ↑Sun Oct 17, 2021 1:52 pmMagic.
I once got interviewed at the pumps by local TV during a price rise. I answered that I'm fine with high prices forcing conservation. I could see the reporter's interest immediately switch off. I wasn't adhering to the script of her predetermined "news". I did not air.
I doubt there were 6 visits to the station. She wanted to find one person to confirm her opinion of what the "news" should be.O Really wrote: ↑Sun Oct 17, 2021 2:15 pmYeppers. In every coverage of tornadoes, somebody's gotta say "sounded just like a freight train."
I understand that some presentation planning is an attempt to present "all sides" but I think they majorly fail at presenting equivalency. F'rinstance, if you've got 100 people happily wearing their masks in a restaurant, and 10 guys outside yelling about losing their Murican rights, then interviewing one each from the groups does not portray the situation very accurately. In some defence or your interviewer, I'd guess that you would have been the only person with that view they'd find in 6 visits to the station, so giving you air time would over-weight, considering how little time local news gives each story anyway.
Oh, I didn't mean to imply that she actually went to the station 6 times. Only that even if she had, she probably wouldn't have found another with your viewpoint. But certainly, her view was likely that people think higher prices suck. I think we'd agree that overall that's true. I'd argue she wasn't trying to create evidence so much as just illustrating the obvious.Vrede too wrote: ↑Sun Oct 17, 2021 3:20 pm

Yeah, how come tornado coverage never includes someone saying, "This town was a shithole, it needed to be flattened so we can start over"?![]()
I used to wonder, with some trivial humour, why they always say the tornado "sounds like a freight train." Can they tell the difference in a freight and passenger train? Turns out you can tell the difference and it's not that hard. Freight trains are almost always much louder, much longer, and have much louder whistles.

Maybe, it was hippie/bicycle/tree hugger/horrible inversions Missoula, and market-based approaches to conservation are not that radical.
But certainly, her view was likely that people think higher prices suck. I think we'd agree that overall that's true. I'd argue she wasn't trying to create evidence so much as just illustrating the obvious.
A journalist should investigate and confirm "the obvious", not settle on it arbitrarily. Besides, contrary views make for better "news" than preaching to the choir does.
Contrary views certainly make for better news theatre, but not necessarily better news coverage. If you're reporting that "Alabama lost to the Aggies" and looking for student reaction at Auburn, you might find one or two people that are willing to give a view contrary to the majority. But if you give equal time or credence to the one or two Bammer sympathizers you find as you give to the 40,000 Bammer haters, you have presented news theatre, but not the news.Vrede too wrote: ↑Sun Oct 17, 2021 4:16 pmO Really wrote: ↑Sun Oct 17, 2021 3:53 pmOh, I didn't mean to imply that she actually went to the station 6 times.
