Actually this year it was sticky stuff they were going after.

There's one big difference, the Astros got caught. So, we get to rake them for being stupid cheaters.GoCubsGo wrote: ↑Fri Oct 29, 2021 1:28 am![]()

I never really followed it closely, either. I don't have an opinion on the appropriate response, but the League and much of the rest of the baseball world thought that it was a very big deal, especially since it synced with a WS win.O Really wrote: ↑Fri Oct 29, 2021 1:46 pmOn matters like stealing signals, etc., baseball should take more of an approach similar to NASCAR. There, the teams largely follow a philosophy of "if you're not cheatin' you're not tryin'". But the infractions aren't ignored - teams get fined, suspended a race, yada all the time, but nobody thinks they're awful people or should be disbanded. I know I'm late on this topic because I didn't really follow it at the time, but it seems a fine would have been appropriate along with a hearty "play ball" and nobody would have still be remembering it now.
I forgot about this:Vrede too wrote: ↑Thu Oct 28, 2021 4:47 pmSeriously, what's the point?
I guess I'm leaning towards wanting Cheatin' Houston to lose, but I don't care enough to watch. Maybe game 7 . . .
The World Series of who we hate less just became more difficult.Vrede too wrote: ↑Fri Oct 29, 2021 3:10 pm
Speaking of disgusting things in Atlanta:
Donald Trump to attend Game 4 of World Series in Atlanta
Release the Boo Birds!
Just so. Few on the list were or are oppressed, and none are as obnoxiously stereotyped as happens with the tomahawk chop.Ulysses wrote: ↑Fri Oct 29, 2021 8:12 pmThe California high school from which I graduated had and American Indian image as its mascot, and a rally chant revolving around a tomahawk. Nobody thought it was inappropriate at the time (that I'm aware of).
But within 20 years the school system ordered the Indian mascot be dropped. Presumably the tomahawk chant was 86'd as well. I always thought the tomahawk chant was a bit much anyway.
Just because some Europeans are used as mascots is largely irrelevant, unless one of them was also exterminated from their native lands. Irish need not apply.
What racial group/ethnicity does he hail from?
Touche, but it's still just a cosplay. I haven't seen 50K do that in unison.
That's fine, but I fear it will take a much broader consensus that the chop is objectionable. Plus, millions of White perpetual victim mostly men will be screaming, "Heritage!" and Cancel culture!" . . . and a few will yell, "Vikings!"GoCubsGo wrote: ↑Fri Oct 29, 2021 10:14 pmExtreme but would work if MLB grew a pair, so it's not going to happen.
MLB should look to European soccer for a way to stop the Tomahawk Chop
Of course, especially in the south. That's why pussyManfred won't go anywhere near it.Vrede too wrote: ↑Fri Oct 29, 2021 10:39 pmThat's fine, but I fear it will take a much broader consensus that the chop is objectionable. So what are we saying here? That indigenous people didn't have tomahawks? They did. That they didn't use them as a weapon? They did. That they didn't wave the tomahawks in ritual dance? They did. That they didn't play baseball? OK, I'll give you that one.
So, no problem with 50K fans of "The Blacks" eating watermelon and chanting, "Massa!" in unison?
