President Harris
Kamala Harris makes history, again, as first woman with presidential power — for 85 minutes
So, what are the chances we'll see a President Harris in 2024 or 2028?
The US Vice-Presidency is somewhat notorious for being a generally thankless job, with few official duties besided officiating at times over the Senate. This wasn't the first time a VP has had to step in temporarily to take the reins of power while the top elected job becomes unoccupied for one or the other reason, but it is significant in that it's the first time a woman has had that honor.
Certainly there's nothing about the top job that a woman couldn't do just as well, if not better than, a man. In the rest of the world there are a number of first world nations with, or which have had, women holding the top spot. So it would seem just a matter of time before the USA follows suit. The names that spring to mind include Angela Merkle of Germany, and Margaret Thatcher of the UK.
The question that comes to mind is, will that person be Kamala Harris?
Why, or why not?

List of elected and appointed female heads of state and government
Lots more than I would have guessed. Some are obscure to Americans, but there's:
Helen Clark
Jacinda Ardern
Benazir Bhutto
Theresa May
Gloria Macapagal Arroyo
Indira Gandhi
Golda Meir
Isabel Martínez de Perón
Corazon Aquino
Benazir Bhutto
That is so embarrassing for the US!

Re: President Harris
Some VP's have become President, one way or another, notable examples being Truman, LBJ, Nixon, Ford, Bush the Elder, but Truman, LBJ and Ford inherited their spot. Getting elected is harder, mostly because if the current President is/was unpopular, the VP is tarred with the same brush, as was Hubert Humphrey, for example. If Infrastruction Week gets off to a good start, and Build Better actually does get passed, and Biden can get his numbers back up, then Harris would have a chance. If not, she's doomed before she starts as is possibly any other Dem unless they can find a charismatic JFK type candidate.

I used to work with scientists from the UK, and that was the term I heard them use. As I recall, it was because Thatcher had refused to continue funding for meals for children of the poor, or something like that.GoCubsGo wrote: ↑Fri Nov 19, 2021 8:18 pmThatch the Snatch?

Here ya go:
"Thatcher, Thatcher, Milk Snatcher”
"Thatcher, Thatcher, Milk Snatcher”
The British press dubbed the future Prime Minister “Thatcher, Thatcher, milk snatcher” for sponsoring legislation to eliminate the free milk program for students over the age of seven. The program had its beginnings in 1940 when children and pregnant women were issued milk to prevent malnutrition that might be brought about by wartime shortages. Thirty years later with Britain mired in an economic crisis, Thatcher claimed that the free milk was too expensive and proceeded to steer through legislation limiting it to children under the age of seven.

How's that ignore thing working out for you?
You're the one that told us that the term you really heard them use is "Milk Snatcher” and you even sourced it, moron. It also rhymes better with 'Thatcher'. Otoh, your "Snatch” is offensive and hateful.

Re: President Harris
Of course, you could just source your "Thatch the Snatch" for us. Oh, and if you did hear it, which is looking increasingly unlikely, it's still misogynist of them and of you for repeating it. Own your poor choices for once in your life.

Note the 1+1/4 hour time difference. During that time I googled the term, and posted the result.Ulysses wrote: ↑Fri Nov 19, 2021 9:06 pmHere ya go:

It may be that the "Thatch the Snatch" was a local term for the visiting UK scientists I worked with back in the 70's. and "Thatcher The Milk Snatcher" was more widespread in the UK. However my co-workers used the term "Thatch The Snatch" repeatedly. Why on earth would I make something like that up? It works more to point out the diseased and rotten mind of TV, than anything else.
Just because it has sexist overtones doesn't mean it's not what they used. Perhaps they hated Mrs. Thatcher, being scientists and all. It seems a lot of educated people hated her.
The real question for BRD is why is TV such a stubborn idiot? Did someone snatch his milk when he was an infant and cause permanent brain damage?
And Frankly My Dears, I Don't Give A Damn.

Good boy:
"overtones" . You were a pig for not speaking up then and you're a pig for repeating it 3 decades later. That said, your wimpy denials, as always, are a hoot!Ulysses wrote: ↑Fri Nov 19, 2021 10:12 pm... Re: President Harris
I would never call Kamala Harris, "Kamala the Vrede". That would be obscene.
And with that pearl of wisdom, TV is going back on full ignore.
