I don't think anyone will, outside may Idaho and ArpaioLand. School administrations and boards are - if nothing else - overly cautious in doing anything that would get their tails in a crack. These people have implemented "zero tolerance" rules that, in addition to other ridiculous stuff, makes a drawing of a gun the same as a gun, and make carrying a nail file the same as an actual weapon. In no three lifetimes are they ever going to have people walking around armed, other than the cop and a rent-a-cop. As is it should be, IMNVHO. Security is more than just being armed and waiting for a chance to shoot somebody.

It's not just a resistance to restricting use of certain weapons that marks the NRA damage to the US. It's the resistance to things like the CDC studying firearm incidents, and total opposition to registration and tracking of weapons.

In 200, there were 12,664 murders (plus however many occurred in Florida and Alabama who don't report figures to the FBI) In nearly 68 percent of the homicides, a firearm was used.

The vast majority of murders happen between people who know each other, 54 percent. But only 260 deaths in 2011 were considered justifiable homicides by private citizens, cases where armed people rushed to save the day, as so many gun proliferation advocates envision.

Handguns were used in 73 percent of the murder and non-negligent manslaughter incidents in 2011. Even if you believe that guns don’t start out destined for use in crime, obviously that’s how many of them end up. After they roll off an assembly line and go to a Walmart or local gun shop, how do they get into the hands of a criminal? Tracking the trajectory of those weapons would be very helpful.

The NRA likes to say that if guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns, but in their effort to allow "good guys" to amass an arsenal outside the scrutiny of the law, they have extended the prerogative to criminals also.

But aside from this particular instance, most people hurt in home invasions do so because the invader didn't know anyone was home. Sure about half of homicides are black on black. And a lot of those are through the use of firearms, some legally owned, a lot illegally owned. Some combination of insufficient law, the wrong laws, or insufficient enforcement of existing law seems to apply. But it would help to be able to track weapons and their owners, much like a car.

Yep, I really like guns and have a lot of fun with them, but the reality is that the fewer guns, the fewer murders. Reality disagrees with what I *want* to be true.
