In Memoriam

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Was Hendrix booed off the stage for that one too?
Apparently so. He only made it about 5 shows, I think. Opening act when I saw the Stones (above) was In Living Colour. They may have been a one-hit wonder with their "Cult of Personality" but they did it well.

Amazingly, only Betty White is left from the MTM cast and she was the oldest one.

In their defense, the audio technology was shit in those days and no one could hear anything with thousands of teen girls screaming, yelling and passing out all around them.

Crappy sound and screaming teenyboppers.

Nice story with that - I posted that Lady O v.1 went to the Beatles concert in Shea Stadium, and that it was about a half-hour long. She became, eventually, a hard-core Beatles fan, believing as I did, that there was no music existing before Beatles. But going to the concert wasn't her idea. Her dad got tickets through some (possibly questionable) contacts and told her the concert would be a major event and would be something she'd be glad to have seen all her life. Instead of "Daddy Daddy I've just GOT to go to this" it was more "C'mon (future Lady O v.1), I'm not going to let you miss this." Arguably one of the best things he did for her, even including the XKE he gave her to take to college.

I wanted to see them in Atlanta (65), but my Dad thought Sonny and Cher in Columbus would be better (easier).

Legendary 'Today' show weatherman Willard Scott dies at 87

RIP. I watched him do the DC weather beginning in 1970, the original Ronald McDonald in DC in the mid 1960s, maybe as the local Bozo the Clown from 1959-62, and likely in other 1960s local children's programming.

I was a fan when he was in DC, not so much when he was a NYG. RIP.

I had totally forgotten that.

Whoosh.
We seem to have broached a sensitive subject. Opps.

The funny thing is that whiny pretend butthurt Useless has exactly the same memories of Bob Dole that we have:

KS Senator, Majority Leader
Failed VP and POTUS (multiple times) candidate
Husband to Liddy, Red Cross chief and carpetbagging NC Senator
Viagra

That's it. Without looking it up Useless could not name a single legislative achievement or even what military branch Dole served in. Fine, but I have no idea why Useless is so disrespectful of Bob as to object to our fond recollection of something that Dole chose to do and be remembered for. Shame.

From the Spring 2002 Driving USA Tour, out of which came the DVD and the double album "Back in the U.S.".

Thanks for sharing.

When I was just still a pre-teen, the Beatles, after "taking the East Coast by storm" in February 1964, returned to the USA in August to deliver the first concert of a US tour at the 17,000 seat Cow Palace in San Francisco. No, I didn't go (no money), but I do remember the general pandemonium (and disdain) about the Beatles in those days.
