What are you watching?

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Yeah, none of the remaining players is awful except for obnoxious Ricard. Actually, I think maybe his appearance affects how at least the audience has reacted to him. He just looks evil - and not in a good way.

South Park Post Covid

It's 40 years in the future and it appears that Kenny may actually be dead.

Sorry for spoiling the first 8 seconds.
Will there be an end?

And there's Cartman's calling.

I'm not 100%, rabbi Cartman distracted me, but I think it may have been Kenny.

OK, back when I had cable about 10-15 years ago, I remember watching South Park occasionally. But once I cut the cable to internet only, don't get any cable TV stations. I have noticed that some SP episodes are available on Youtube, but don't know if there's a fee for that or not. Some Youtube appears to be on a fee basis, I *think*.

Anyway it was enjoyable when I saw it a decade ago, especially since one of my motorcycling buddies was named Kenny. LOL.

Kenny has had a tough life.
I only watch these days when my kid identifies a great one.

There are lots of free tv channels if you are an Amazon Prime member, or through your roku device that have free South Park, Soap, Dragnet and pretty much everything.

Yeah, I have a Roku device but still haven't hooked it up. LOL.

And no Amazon Prime either.

But I guess I'll look at the Roku box again. It's sitting here on my desk, never hooked it up.

Before you know it, you'll be watching Leave it to Beaver and Gunsmoke 24/7.

I'm not losing sleep over whatever you do for electronic entertainment, but it seems that since you don't have cable, satellite or a DVR, that the only thing that keeps you from being limited to 50's-era appointment TV is your willingness to record to 90's-era DVDs. And even that enslaves you to whatever airing schedule the OTA stations have.

Roku doesn't have everything for free, but there's a lot. And the services that do require a subscription are cheap at about $5/month, most give a free month to start, and all let you cancel anytime. So you can literally sign up, use the service for a month, watch the show you want and then cancel.

Even your favourite PBS is online.

Well, you seem to be laboring under the delusion that DVD's are 90's era. My combo DVD/VCR recorders were purchased new around 2009.

#1 DVD's are not "1990's technology".

#2 I do have a hard drive equipped "DVR" but only connect it to the antenna.

#3 If by '50's era appointment TV, you mean watching TV programs broadcast over the air, that's not 50's era. It's a format that has been used all through the 2000's. Nothing wrong with it, especially for public TV channels that are generally commercial free and very high quality.

#4 I really don't miss cable network shows, like Succession. Why? Because they are generally crafted to appeal to the lowest common denominator. They are more 50's TV than what I watch on PBS. And if I really have a need to watch some cable TV series, I can always pick up a box set of, yes, DVD's of it at Costco or other outlet for less than a month's cable fee. And, on occasion, I will do that.

#5 By recording programs I like to DVD, it's no longer "appointment TV" as you put it. I can watch it any time any day for... FREE!

So while I might someday hook up the blasted ROKU thingamabob, I'm in no hurry and don't feel in the least bit behiind the times or less sophisticated than you are trying so eloquently to paint me.

Appointment TV isn't necessarily bad - actually we watch many if not most of our favourite recurring programs at the time they are broadcast. But if for whatever reason I miss the airing, it's nice to be able to catch it next day or later.

One thing I've noticed over the past few weeks is that the local PBS stations have cut back on their offerings. I suppose it has something to do with the holidays. Anyway I can always fall back on my DVD collection.

They're coy with the edit this season, the only obvious one is Ricard and he's the most unlikable of the players left (actually he's an arrogant asshole).

I'm good with Erika, Deshawn or Xander in that order.
