What are you watching?

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Can you? I have no idea, never tried it streaming/Roku/etc. If it's possible, then that would be a big plus for streaming. But it would be false to assert that one could not hit pause on a DVD player during playback of a recorded program.
Yes, because 10-year-old technology is generally vastly inferior to 25-year-old technology. 🙄
Um, my DVD recorder is about a decade old, not 25 years old.

You lose, again!

GoCubsGo!
Whooosh. DVR technology is 25 years old, the age of your device is irrelevant, and GoCubsGo's point is that it's obvious that 10-year-old "streaming/Roku/etc" technology will be able to do anything that DVR's can and more. I swear, you really really need to find that 4th grader to explain conversations to you before you stick your foot in your mouth.

Well, it may be that a 10-year old DVD recorder may be better than a 25 year old model, even though clearly they're the same fundamental technology. Seems discs started coming pre-formatted, and probably wiring may include USB and/or HDMI, but otherwise it's still just lasering a piece of plastic that someday after a life on a dusty shelf will end up in the Pacific plastic pile.

Because there's been huge leaps in the technology of DVD players?

Besides, pause has been a feature of DVD players since the get go, so who the hell, knows what your point is because you're addressing the wrong technology.

To paraphrase Reagan yet again, someone often speaks authoritatively on so much about subjects he knows so little.

You'd really be better off saying nothing and looking less foolish, or do a scintilla of research on subjects where you have no knowledge. You show your ass consistently and it's not a pretty sight.

Talk about losers. 🙄

Listen, Cucky, DVD's work just fine. I really don't know what your problem is. Other than that you're depending on your internet connection staying up in order to view stuff that I can just pop into a player and view whenever I want.

You can take your ROKU device and shove it.

I just wish you'd stfu about things you gloatingly know nothing about and stifle your attempts to act like your antiquated shit is somehow superior to anything else on the planet.

Till you do, it's open season.

I'm continually amazed your ROKU actually works when it's shoved so far up your anus.

Have you considered becoming a ROKU spokesperson?

No one said that DVDs don't work fine, whiner. Rather, the point that you're cowering from is that it's obvious that more modern tech will be able to do anything that the DVDs do, other than doubling as mini frisbees and garden ornaments.

Lots more actually, he's limited to whatever he's got on his shelf. We can watch most anything we want at any time.

Well yes, but that would be literally tens of thousands of shows of all ages and genres. And sure, you can probably look for something that's not streaming, usually because of some copyright or licensing issue, but the selection across the board is enormous. And you also have access to the Red Box inventory without having to actually go find a Red Box.

I don't get paid by Roku, and I haven't even been a great fan of streaming for long. But during our travels we've had satellite/reception/station availability issues from time to time and I discovered what a entertainment-life enhancement streaming availability is.

Well, I could see that for someone who travels in an RV like you seem to do. Me, I've traveled far and wide without much of a need for video entertainment. For me the travel is the entertainment. YMMV.

Maybe if he ventured outside his back yard once in awhile he might possibly discover these things.

A holiday or vacation isn't the same as living in a motorhome. In fact, one of the most frequent mistakes people make when they start traveling "full time" is that they act like they're on constant vacation. You do get to see/do a lot of stuff, but most days are not so different from what you'd do living in a house. You've got groceries to shop for, laundry to do, "house" cleaning or maintenance, etc. And at the end of the day, more often than not, you want your MTV.

Yes, but not in any form anybody would "want" it. I just liked the expression.
