The Food Thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

I liked the McRib. Never thought it was actual rib, though.

Only in America (I guess)......🙄

From the McRib to Taco Bell's Mexican pizza: fast food innovations we still crave today

So after 40 years I finally gave the McRib a try......puke city. :puke-left:
Threw it out. It really didn't resemble food in any form I'm familiar with.

I've never had any of the 5 listed. I'm so proud.

Spam on a bun with sauce, onions and pickle?🤮

I've never tried the others either.
Meat restructuring was developed by the US Army to deliver low-cost meat to troops in the field.[6] The process was refined by a Natick Army Labs meat scientist, Dr. Roger Mandigo, leading to the McRib patty.[7][8] It is primarily composed of ground pork shoulder.[9]

We got a better weather day than we were expecting and took a cruise down the 101, saw some big rocks at Haystack Rock, along with some tufted puffins, and stopped at a place called Grizzly Tuna for fish and chips made from tuna. Most fish and chips are some kind of whitefish, usually cod or halibut and can range widely in quality. I'd never had fish and chips with tuna. Very good, glad I got it, but the regular version is better. They also had fish tacos with tuna.

Haystack Rock is a 235 ft (72 m) sea stack in Cannon Beach, Oregon. It is sometimes claimed locally to be the third-tallest such intertidal structure in the world, but there are no official references to support this. A popular tourist destination, the monolithic rock is adjacent to the beach and accessible by foot at low tide. The Haystack Rock tide pools are home to many intertidal animals, including starfish, sea anemone, crabs, chitons, limpets, and sea slugs. The rock is also a nesting site for many sea birds, including terns and puffins.

We went out for a nice hike today in some deep woods, which seems to be all they have in Oregon, and found several batches of Boletus mushrooms. Packed in enough to have with dinner. Pic below not ours, but like the ones we collected.

Woman sparks chaos on TikTok after sharing the ‘real way’ to eat a chicken wing: ‘This is absolutely the correct way’ (article)

Her TikTok:

 I'm going to get some wings and try it. I admit that I've always been a little (very little) put off by the hassle of getting at all the meat.

I've only tried one: the McRib. It was OK but more like Spam than pork. Probably was at least ten-twenty years ago.

Can't remember the last time I had fast food.

Note: I do not consider a bucket of KFC legs & thighs to be fast food. Just good food. LOL. And it's been several years since I've shelled out for that, anyway.

Which reminds me... I need to start working through the frozen won-ton and similar Chinese chow in the chest freezer.

Nadiya Hussain

Happened to see her on The Graham Norton Show. She discussed how no food is wasted in her Bangladeshi culture.
Make this "pulled" banana peel recipe: Nadiya Hussain on Good Morning Britain!

... Banana peel recipe step-by-step

Step 1: Save your banana peels (two would be fine for this recipe) and wash them, Make sure all of the white inside has been removed. Clean with a spoon if there’s anything leftover inside.

Step 2: Shred the peels with a fork, “pulling them” and then slice them into 2 to 3 inch-long pieces.

Step 3: In a bowl, add the banana, 1 tbsp of olive oil, 1/2 tsp of garlic powder, 2 cloves of chopped garlic. Mix to combine.

Step 4: Finely slice 1 onion.

Step 4: Heat a pan over medium heat and add the chopped onion. Cook until softened, then add the shredded banana peels. Add a small splash of water to help them steam and become tender.

Step 5: The bananas should be done in around 5 to 10 minutes more or less. Add another splash of water and keep cooking if the pan goes dry before the bananas have softened.

Step 6: When they are tender, add 2 tbsps of barbecue sauce, or enough to fully cover the mix, and season with salt and pepper to taste. Cook for under a minute to let the mix fully soak up the BBQ flavour.

Step 7: Assemble your “pulled banana” burger! We recommend a brioche bun and some coleslaw, but customise your burger to your tastes. Get creative!
Yum!

Think how many millions of tons of edible peel has been wasted over the centuries. :problem:

Yeah and not just bananas. Some people peel apples, peaches, pears, potato skins, etc.
