Not long before the monkey trial, the town of Erwin, two counties over from me on the way to NC, killed a circus elephant by hanging it from a crane (they had to hang it twice before it died) after the elephant killed one of its trainers. This was about 1915 or so. I have to figure the elephant trainer was a white guy. After all, no white elephant owner would kill it if it killed a black guy in TN during the early 20th century.

Re: Wingnutties out of control!
Here's a good one. The TN GQP is threatening to dissolve the state medical licensing board over their intent to suspend or revoke the licenses of doctors who put out misinformation about covid. A couple of the more idiotic wingnuts have threatened to dissolve the board entirely unless the board provided the lawmakers with a definition of "misinformation." Take a look at the photo of this fascist clown TN legislator chugging something from a Hershey's chocolate syrup bottle. This is what I'm having to deal with on a continual basis here.
https://www.yahoo.com/news/another-tenn ... p_catchall
I sent him an email this morning that he's sure not to like. Here's part of it.
Kent, this morning I read a story about how you are apparently confused about what "misinformation" is. I am referring to the lunatic notion that you and some other GQP nutjobs are threatening to dissolve the state medical licensing board over their insistence that they will not tolerate state licensed doctors putting out inaccurate or false information about the covid virus. All because you supposedly do not know what misinformation is. I find that amazing considering the fact that you and the GQP constantly use disinformation for your own purposes. For example, the GQP has for years railed about the "death tax" and insinuating that it affects virtually everyone when in fact it only affects estates valued at something like 5 million. Calling an estate tax a "death tax" tends to make people vote against their own interests, in this case giving tax breaks to millionaires while falsely believing they are giving themselves one. THAT is misinformation. Another example is the GQP fever to pass "right to work" laws, which are, in effect, right to not pay union dues even if you're a union member. So this is more misinformation intended to again encourage voters to vote against their own interests (labor unions advocate for workers) by insinuating that "right to work" laws are something that somehow ensures that workers have a "right" to a job. So you obviously know how misinformation works. Why do you now say you don't know what it is? You and your GQP colleagues are so enthralled to a raccoon eyed juvenile minded moron and pathological liar called trump that you've basically thrown reality and common sense out the window. By the way, another definition of misinformation is just about anything that comes out of the fascist clown trump's mouth.
Explain to me how you and your cohorts presume to be more knowledgeable than medical professionals when dealing with a deadly pandemic. I would be interested to know why you are in favor of quacks, nutjobs, wingnuts, and downright fools being able to put out false or half true information to the public. I suppose once again it all goes back to the idiot trump doing the same misinformation that you and your cohorts are now in awe of.......like how the virus was a "hoax" at first, then it was going to "just go away like a miracle" and how "it's no worse than the flu."
The photo of you chugging something from a Hershey's chocolate syrup bottle on the floor of the statehouse gave me a big clue as to your intelligence.
Don't gaslight me; you are an expert in misinformation and its your preferred way to pass laws that hurt ordinary citizens and advantage the rich. From the inception of the Republican party, it has done nothing for average citizens other than what Lincoln did for slaves in the Confederacy. Every single thing that benefits the average worker or family or citizen that has happened since then has been strenuously opposed by the Republican party.....8 hour workdays, unemployment insurance, Social Security, civil rights......the history is there and plain to see. Because of that, your party wallows in misinformation so don't presume to tell me you don't know what misinformation is. Basically, misinformation is what you do for a living.

Re: Wingnutties out of control!
Humanity has a collective screw loose.
South Korea has the highest gender wage gap among the wealthy countries. Less than one-fifth of its national lawmakers are women. Women make up only 5.2 percent of the board members of publicly listed businesses, compared with 28 percent in the United States.
And yet, most young men in the country argue that it is men, not women, in South Korea who feel threatened and marginalized. Among South Korean men in their 20s, nearly 79 percent said they were victims of serious gender discrimination, according to a poll in May.
“There is a culture of misogyny in male-dominant online communities, depicting feminists as radical misandrists and spreading fear of feminists,” said Kim Ju-hee, 26, a nurse who has organized protests denouncing anti-feminists.
The wave of anti-feminism in South Korea shares many of the incendiary taglines with right-wing populist movements in the West that peddle such messages. Women who argue for abortion rights are labeled “destroyers of family.” Feminists are not champions of gender equality, but “female supremacists.”
In South Korea, “women” and “feminists” are two of the most common targets of online hate speech, according to the country’s National Human Rights Commission.

Cops are lying cowards.... The investigation, conducted by an attorney at the Seattle law firm of Stokes Lawrence, concluded that (Assistant Chief Derek) Kammerzell’s claim that he didn’t know the significance of the insignia and had heard about it after being referred to the television series “Man in the High Castle” — where one of the main characters holds that rank — was not believable.
The series is an adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s 1962 novel, which presents a dystopian alternate future in which Germany won World War II and occupied America, where the Nazis continue their efforts to round up and exterminate Jews.
One of the key antagonists in the series, an American Nazi named John Smith, holds that rank, which is identifiable by a collar patch depicting an oak-leaf and two diamonds — the insignia Kammerzell posted on his door.
Moreover, Kammerzell acknowledged during the investigation that he once shaved his facial hair into a “Hitler mustache” and repeatedly told a joke to the effect that his grandfather had died in the Holocaust — when he got drunk and fell out of a guard tower.
He downplayed both incidents to investigators, stating the facial hair was part of “Movember,” a beard-growing fundraising event held every November to spotlight men’s health issues, and that the joke was 20 years old. The investigation found his explanations were convenient and less than credible....
Assistant Chief Derek Kammerzell
So, his "punishment" was an unplanned vacation.... In addition to the two weeks without pay — during which Kammerzell was allowed to take paid vacation to make up his salary — he was ordered to attend “cultural sensitivity training.”

Other cops sweep lying cowardice under the rug. 1312.However, (Kent Police Chief Rafael) Padilla did not sustain a violation of the department’s “truthfulness” policy, despite his obfuscation regarding his knowledge of the meaning of the insignia. A violation of that policy could have resulted in termination.
“I do not believe the investigation produced sufficient evidence that you were untruthful in asserting that you were not aware that the insignia you posted on your door was not used by non-Nazi German military forces,” Padilla wrote, adopting Kammerzell’s claim that he believed the insignia had also been used by post-WWII German NATO commanders....
This is not O Really's redneck eastern Washington. Rather, Kent is in Seattle's King County and is only 55.5% White. There is zero reason for the residents to think that their police will be non-racist, non-antisemitic and accountable, zero.
Chief Rafael Padilla

Speaking of wood chipper hairdos:
neoplacebo wrote: ↑Wed Dec 15, 2021 12:07 pmYeah, TN has a long and shameful history of wingnutty dumbfuckery. And Marsha Blackburn and Diana Harshbarger are working hard to perpetuate it.
Nice hair, costume party later?
... Mathis, who is Black, had his license briefly suspended after he forgot to pay speeding tickets 10 years ago when he was in his 20s. One of the speeding tickets was from him driving five miles per hour over the speed limit.
Blackburn called this an example of Mathis having a "rap sheet," the term used to list arrests and convictions of a criminal history. Traffic violations for speeding typically don't garner arrests.
"If speeding tickets are a rap sheet, I've got one too," said chairman Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL).

... Bendery also noted that it was an odd question coming from Blackburn, who just last year, was allegedly speeding down Constitution Ave. in Washington, D.C. as the members were released on a recess. Capitol police pulled her over, CNN.com reported. According to a source familiar with the incident, Blackburn jumped out of the car, identified herself as a U.S. Senator, flashed her member's pin and the officer let her go.
Leo Kowalski, an aide to Blackburn, text-messaged his friends that when being pulled over, Blackburn "hopped out, flashed her pin, hopped back in the car [and] said 'drive!' Officer didn't say a word, just shook his head." Blackburn wasn't driving at the time. The incident occured March 2021, where the three tickets for Mathis happened before Blackburn was in the U.S. Senate.
The Capitol Police says that it has no record of the incident, but Blackburn's office confirmed the incident when questioned....
