I like Vrede, and Too. Or at least I like his forum persona since I don't know him personally and wouldn't try to find out who/where he is. But I'm pretty sure I'd like him IRL, also....

Posters come and go in all forums, only the good ones are missed, and only the great ones become topics. You're a superstar, my man!

The direct answer, so you won't have to make possibly wrong inferences from a non-response is "yes." But the "yes" has a context. People post in public forums for a variety of reasons, and adopt varied personas that may or may not reflect their "normal" IRL personalities. You may not know or remember the former poster "homerfobe" who I referred to as "homo." He was one of the most obnoxious, foul, stupid, and intentionally offensive posters you'll find. Starting with his screen name, his purpose was to offend and to fight with those who are offended. There are others in any forum who will adopt a confrontational position knowing it will be offensive, and adopt it because it's offensive. For me, these are people who can mostly be ignored. Their goal is to attract attention and to be insulting, and I usually choose not to play. To Vrede, however, those people are like a wildebeest to a lion, and they've got three choices: (a) change their act; (b) go somewhere else; or (c) take abuse from somebody who's a lot better dishing it out than they are.

See, I don't understand the sport in going out of my way to berate my follow posters, to SHOUT, or emphasize the superiority of my comments with a row of bangs!!!!!!!! So I usually ignore them or, if I engage at all make an effort to treat them as if they did have a brain until it becomes hopeless.
Vrede, on the other hand, understands these people well. He knows what somebody like Homo wants, and he teases him with repartee that elicits a response, but gives Homo no satisfaction. The "Homos" of forums want to be always right, always the one who knows, and Vrede never gives them that. So they keep trying - doing the same thing over and over and never "gett(ing) no satisfaction." Why they don't just say "fuck him and the horse he rode in on" and go somewhere else or do something else, or ignore him. I have no idea. I would never respond to any of his taunting posts. But the "Homos" just can't stand it. They hate Vrede, but love his attention. They want him gone, but would be empty without him because he keeps feeding them, playing their strings. Dealing with Vrede is easy. Discuss reasonably, or don't respond. A "Homo" engages at his own peril.

It's a system flaw.

I generally just scroll past the quoted material, and excise it from my response.

And on that note, I'm slightly taken aback by my comments about BRD. Primarily only two posters here yank my chain on a regular basis: Greedie, and Sluggo. Greedie I can put on ignore. But because Sluggo is a mod, doesn't work for it.
