Re: Education thread
You guys remind me of the old joke about a group of people who had determined that they had heard every joke in the world. So they numbered all of them and then instead of re-telling the entire joke, they just said "15" and everybody laughed. One night they were sitting around in the bar telling joke numbers and a guy said "74". Everybody laughed, but one guy just kept on laughing. When asked why he found that one so funny, he said he hadn't heard it before.

Glenn Youngkin Sets Up Tip Line To Report Teachers And You Know What Pranksters Did Next
The GOP Virginia governor's email hotline seeking reports of “divisive practices” in schools has received some, well, interesting responses.

You guys. I explicitly said to NOT send fake racism tips to helpeducation@governor.virginia.gov and in response you all send this, pictured below.
So I repeat—do not use the below as a guide on how to send fake racism tips directly to the VA GOP Governor’s Office. Thank you.
Mine:
Tweets have tweets:To: helpeducation@governor.virginia.gov
Subject: CRT sucks
I have learned that teachers all over the state are spewing the CRT BS propaganda that the South lost the Civil War and that Blacks are fully American citizens. This revisionist abomination must be stopped and the White Race and its privilege must be defended!
Thank you, Heil Youngkin,
(Vrede too)
Thank you sir for this very helpful info

Keeping your sons in my prayers.
No need for fake tips: just report most of American history to the inbox.
They told my kid 1+1=2 without my ok.
I’m white and a teacher and I will continue to teach the truth. They can sue me or fire me. Whatever. 30 years in and I’m not big on l following stupid rules.
One day the anti-CRT panic will itself be taught in history classrooms.
Or at least that's what I believe on a good day.And the kids will all be....WTAF was wrong with our parents and grandparents

I don't even go to Virginia anymore. It gives me a weird feeling. It's only a mile away but it looks like they've gone over the high side.

School Board in Tennessee Bans Teaching of Holocaust Novel ‘Maus’ https://nyti.ms/3AGklBl
"A school board in Tennessee voted unanimously this month to ban “Maus,” a Pulitzer Prize-winning graphic novel about the Holocaust, from being taught in its classrooms because it contains material that board members said was inappropriate for students."

That's their fucking objection?During the McMinn County board’s discussion of “Maus,” multiple board members discussed redacting profanity or said they did not object to teaching the history of the Holocaust. One of the board members, Mike Cochran, said he objected to the language and depiction of nudity.

I'm a little bit closer to Spartanburg SC (145 miles) than to what I think is the county seat of McMinn County, Athens (155 miles). The goddamn trumpers are hell bent on making the US a fascist state.billy.pilgrim wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 5:52 pmHow close are you to McMinn County.neoplacebo wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 5:33 pmI don't even go to Virginia anymore. Re: Education thread
The Nazis at the McMinn County School Board are so stupid that they've ensured that more kids nationwide, in TN and probably even in McMinn County are reading Maus, which is brilliant, than otherwise would have.

The Streisand effect. I had never heard of this book. But now I'm going to check it out as well.

It's amazing, but not pleasant.
I've known forever that would be censorship often backfires, but I'd never heard it called the Streisand effect before.

The Useless effect: it reminds me of what Neil Young said on the live CSNY album 4 Way Street when he introduced the song "Don't Let It Bring You Down." "This is a new song; it starts off kind of slow and then fizzles out altogether."
