You, like me, seem to have missed the 1976 incident.
But anyway, reporting that Clapton says he thinks Britain should be an all-white country or that he favors a particular politician is not the same as reporting that Clapton says vaccines kill people.
It occurred to me, though, as I read about the 1976 rant, that people were much more willing to let stuff like that blow over than they are now. Today, anybody saying anything close to that would be dead in the water. Hell, today, anybody who said something like that 30 years ago is still in jeopardy.
Dead in the water . . . or a former staffer for the former PINO, or a congressperson from WNC, Panhandle FL, rural GA or western CO.
Well, yeah, they could be those. But smelly fish might also be considered "dead in the water." I was thinking more in terms of entertainers who get "cancelled" for their comments.

Spotify’s market value dropped more than $2 billion in the last few days after Neil Young pulled his music over Joe Rogan’s podcast. Shares have tumbled around 12% from where it closed last week.
Young had pulled his songs from the music platform on Wednesday because, he said, Spotify had become “a very damaging force” in spreading misinformation about COVID. Young referred to an open letter from medical professionals earlier this month that urged Spotify to crack down on COVID misinformation on “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast.
”They can have Rogan or Young. Not both,“ the music legend wrote in a now-deleted letter that was provided to Rolling Stone.
“I am doing this because Spotify is spreading fake information about vaccines – potentially causing death to those who believe the disinformation being spread by them,” Young wrote. “Please act on this immediately today and keep me informed of the time schedule.”

Earlier this month, a group of more than 260 health and science professionals called on Spotify to take action against “mass-information events” on its app, singling out Rogan for repeatedly spreading misleading and false claims on his show. The show has promoted the use of ivermectin to treat COVID and discouraged vaccination in young people....
Peter Frampton showed his support of Young’s decision Thursday, tweeting, “Good for you Neil. I’ve always been an Apple guy for streaming. No Joe Rogan for me thank you! @neilyoung@SpotifyUSA.” And on Friday, Joni Mitchell said in a statement on her website that she will also pull her music from Spotify in protest and “stand in solidarity” with Neil Young.
“I’ve decided to remove all my music from Spotify. Irresponsible people are spreading lies that are costing people their lives,” Mitchell said.

According to a statement from the Archewell production company founded by the royal and wife Meghan Markle, whose 2018 wedding Blunt attended, the couple have been voicing concerns to Spotify since last April about “the all-too-real consequences of COVID-19 misinformation on its platform.”
The couple have a multiyear podcasting goal with Spotify, but "have continued to express our concerns to Spotify to ensure changes to its platform are made to help address this public health crisis. We look to Spotify to meet this moment and are committed to continuing our work together as it does.”

(Spotify CEO Daniel) Ek noted that Spotify will add a content advisory to podcast episodes that discuss COVID-19, directing listeners to fact-based resources on the subject "to combat misinformation." He also pledged to "raise awareness around what's acceptable and help creators understand their accountability for the content they post on our platform." ...
