Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

A little Hail Maryish.

I'm sure he doesn't want to have to defend on the merits, not to mention the expense.

IMO the Free Speech for People challenge is Hail Maryish absent MadCaw being convicted in criminal court of something r/t 1/6. I just don't see the NC Board of Elections launching its own investigation and hearings on his guilt. It's not qualified.

I wonder if this is more of a PR move by Free Speech for People than one they hope will succeed irl. Whatever, I'm fine with MadCaw and his lawyer having to deal with it.

Not sure they need to launch an investigation, they're definitely not qualified and they probably don't have the apparatus to do so.

They may be able to pass judgment on public record.

And yeah, it's a Hail Mary on both sides but apparently enough to make MadCaw respond and be a bit nervous.

Can he really be this stupid? I think that most, maybe all, the politicians know that they are lying when they push this bs, but this one and that boebert woman may actually be this stupid.

Cawthorn, Boebert, Jordan, Greene, Gohmert, Gosar, Gaetz......they all believe the shit they spout is true. They have to at this point. After all, it's the only thing that keeps them in their jobs. Like your former signature line: it's hard to make someone understand something when their paycheck depends on them not understanding it.

At least the lawsuits will give him something to focus on to divert from his devastating divorce grief.

North Carolina Supreme Court strikes down GOP-drawn congressional map

This has been going on for years, well before 2020. The democracy-hating Repugs get spanked every time.

Cool.

While this ruling can only be good for NC, why do I fear that it will end up with MadCaw being my Rep again? :angry-banghead:
Today:
Panel of NC judges approves new voting maps; State House announces plans to appeal ruling

... The newly-approved congressional map puts the 11th district back in western North Carolina.
The RepuQs are whining like toddlers, so it's probably an improvement. MadCaw will have to refile, almost certainly in NC11. TV news suggested that he might have burned some bridges by filing in the now irrelevant NC13....
I hate being correct.

Judge blocks effort to keep Rep. Madison Cawthorn off election ballot

A federal judge on Friday granted a preliminary injunction against an effort seeking to remove Rep. Madison Cawthorn's name from a ballot in his upcoming re-election bid.

U.S. District Judge Richard Myers of the Eastern District of North Carolina said the Republican congressman was likely to succeed in his effort to stop the lawsuit by several voters challenging his candidacy.

The ruling came in response to Cawthorn's lawsuit against the North Carolina State Board of Elections filed in February. The suit says the board doesn't have the authority to remove his name from the election ballots.

In January, a group of 11 voters filed a complaint with the board saying Cawthorn's alleged role in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol constitutionally bars him from re-election.

They said the 14th Amendment prevents people who "have engaged in insurrection or rebellion" from running for Congress. The voters said Cawthorn's support of former President Donald Trump's attempts to overturn the 2020 election amount to insurrection.

Cawthorn, who gave a speech at The Ellipse near the White House ahead of the insurrection, and others, including Trump, played a role that "led directly, intentionally, and foreseeably to the insurrectionists' violent assault on the Capitol," the complaint alleged....

Ron Fein, legal director for Free Speech For People, which is representing the voters in the initial complaint, called for the injunction to be reversed.

"This ruling, by Chief Judge Richard Myers II, a Trump appointee, is wrong on the law and would block the State Board of Elections from determining whether Cawthorn is ineligible under the Insurrectionist Disqualification Clause of the U.S. Constitution," Fein said. "The ruling must be reversed on appeal, and the right of voters to bring this challenge to Cawthorn's eligibility must be preserved."

Cawthorn praised the ruling as a "huge victory" on Twitter.

"The left's lawfare tactics have failed. On to re-election!" he wrote.
Oh well, I've had my doubts about the tactic all along. I have no idea about the illegality of the North Carolina State Board of Elections canceling a candidate or whether this is just the claim of a Trumpette judge. However, I did wonder whether the Board could or would cancel MadCaw absent a criminal conviction.

Excerpts from MadCaw's Twitter feed:
You ain’t getting re-anything, sport.
You had a Trump appointed judge

It will be appealed
HUGE VICTORY!

for authoritarianism

HUGE LOSS

for democracy

Nevermind that it's a clear-cut case that a Trump-appointed judge sidestepped. This is why people have lost faith in the justice system. Besides, you'll be primaried out.
So the judge agreed that you were an insurrectionist, but law couldn't be applied to you. Not really vindication. It's not over traitor #SeditionHasConsequences #insurrectionists #NC11
The UPI article does not say that about the judge, but several tweeters make the same point.
Appeal has already been filed. This is far from over.
My impression is that the Fourth Circuit is somewhat liberal, but -0-? .
Still this...

What @POTUS is doing is very methodically saving the world. This is a moment he has prepared for his entire life. The 2020 election should be regarded as most consequential since WW2. That will hold true until 2024. Democracy was and is very much on the ballot
I miss when America was a beacon of hope, freedom & democracy! That was prior to Jan 20, 2017...& has been in the process of being restored since Jan 20, 2021...Adversaries fear & respect us & allies once again look to the USA as Leader of the Free World!
I miss when sitting congressmen weren't traitors to democracy.
I miss when Republicans weren't putin sympathizers.
More scathing of MadCaw.

Not that I approve but people do drive with revoked licenses, speed and cross the center line. However, only complete idiots get busted 3 times in 5 months. Is this just an unfortunate winter for him, or along with the divorce is he having a terminal meltdown?
Do we know what incident resulted in the revocation of his license?
Lock him up!
Also:
Home-schooled, D-student in one college semester dropout, social media troll and weapons enthusiast is justifiably concerned about being able to do serious work that requires some reading comprehension.
