The car thread ...

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Sweet. The one I saw was a drab green color and needed restoration. That one there is nice. For the T birds, I like anything from about 1960 to 69.
The Mustang ruined the T-Bird's sporty-car market. Once they started being just another version of luxury sedan Lincoln, I lost interest.

The first car I remember my dad owning was a 1965 ish T Bird convertible where the trunk deck automatically opened and the top self stowed inside.

For a little kid that was way cool.

Yeah, cool gadget, but wouldn't it mean you basically had no trunk at all? Where did he carry his golf clubs?

That's why it had a back seat.

"She had fun fun fun till her daddy took the T-bird away..."

Me, it took five years of university and another year slaving away in a lab job before I got my first ride. Still have it. Cars are cool.

Maybe you hop out and lift the front end to the direction you want to go. Anyhow:

Well, it was "daddy's" car. Given the song is from '64, the T-Bird probably looked like this one:

Maybe.

Or since it was Daddy's car, it might have been a 1st gen, like this. I remember one of these in my neighborhood in the late 50's-early 60's...

And then there's...

At least 1 person was killed in a shooting at an Arkansas car show
At least one person was killed and 20 others wounded, including children, in a shooting outside a car show in southeast Arkansas on Saturday evening, local police said.

Dumas Police Chief Keith Finch provided the number of casualties but said it wasn't immediately clear how many kids had been hurt. Additional information, including conditions of the wounded, wasn't immediately available.

One person was in custody, although there may have been multiple shooters, Finch told reporters.

State troopers were dispatched at around 7:25 p.m. to Dumas, located about 90 miles (144 kilometers) south of Little Rock, following a report of gunfire outside a local business where the car show was underway, Arkansas State Police spokesperson Bill Sadler said

That is exactly what it looked like, cherry red and a white top.

I was referring to the song "got her Daddy's car and drove through the hamburger stand, now..." but if that's the car your dad had, it was indeed a cool one. Here's my mum's car from the same period. SS396. Drove it regularly until about 75, then semi-retired it. Finally sold it around '90ish. One of the reasons they got me nice cars was to keep my out of theirs.

You guys sound like you were spoiled brats.

Every car I ever owned was bought with my own hard earned money.

When did I ever say I'd been to Cuba (never have been)?

You're hallucinating again.
