Interesting that the pronunciation would have been in question over the years. The developer says it's "jif" so that's its name. BUT - it's not really a word. It's an acronym, properly pronunced "G I F" or completely as "Graphics Interchange Format" with all capital letters. So developers preference notwithstanding, grammatically there is no "correct" way to pronounce a non-word.
