If Oxford and Merriam Webster think it's "racist," I'd suggest they're mistaken. German is an ethnic group, not a race. But it was always considered a derogatory name for Germans. Probably won't be too long before they'll have to rename the pickled cabbage they put on hot dogs at the ball park.
