It happened, past tense - nothing can be done about that. All that's left is to help soften the blow to as many as possible and use the backlash from this religious/political bs to bury them.

Re: The Supremes
I was thinking that maybe I could offer to drive women here from SC or even TN, KY or WV. If I decide to do this, or to drive pills into those states and my help is wanted, I won't be announcing it here. Crap, I am so sad and angry . . .billy.pilgrim wrote: ↑Fri Jun 24, 2022 2:57 pmSo?
So is driving 20 mph over the speed limit. So are a lot of things. The doc I mentioned earlier ships everything in plain packaging.
Or a lot of people can afford a day or weekend in Mexico.
And maybe we can help the others.

Re: The Supremes
My sister does that here, mostly women that have been flown in from other states. Pick up and drop off at O'Hare to the clinic as well as local women that just need transportation.Vrede too wrote: ↑Fri Jun 24, 2022 6:04 pmI was thinking that maybe I could offer to drive women here from SC or even TN, KY or WV. Re: The Supremes

According to the map just flashed on the TV news abortion is still legal in SC and no "trigger laws" are in place, but it won't stay legal there long. Here in NC the RepuQs would need to pick up enough seats to override a Gov Cooper veto.

Re: The Supremes
Women in FL and AL will have to drive huge distances - 350 miles according to TV - in order to get abortion services. Will the Hwy Patrol in transited states be on the lookout for them?billy.pilgrim wrote: ↑Fri Jun 24, 2022 4:48 pmIt happened, past tense - nothing can be done about that. Re: The Supremes
The idea came up largely from Oklahoma. A mega abortion clinic somewhere on a rez down in the southeast area of Oklahoma could serve a very wide market. Likewise the spot shown on the map in southeast Alabama. Revenue over time could meet or exceed casinos, while performing a societal service. I'm sure the Okies would try to put up roadblocks (literally and figuratively), but if it's an Indian enterprise on Indian land I think it would take a federal law to stop it. A lot of the reservation areas have their own healthcare sytems, providers, and facilities and probably do some abortions as is. Somebody should keep doing what they're doing, let the state sue/charge them and give it a shot.

Lots of potential pitfalls especially for the doctors and nurses licensed in their respective states though.
Possibly new case law in the making but that won't do them any good if a board suspended them.

Re: The Supremes
Good point, but...
"As a matter of federal law under the IHCIA, licensed health professionals employed by a
tribal health program are exempt from the licensing requirements of the State in which the tribal
health program is located, provided they are licensed in any other State.139 When a tribe or tribal
organization provides services pursuant to an ISDEAA contract or compact,140 these federal
licensing rules preempt state licensing requirements"
Might involve some hoop-jumping, but it still looks workable even if not easy.

Re: The Supremes
Rez abortions might be legal and unstoppable by the misogynists, but women could still be charged for traveling to them like for traveling to abortion-legal states.

Re: The Supremes

"As an “originalist” does Clarence Thomas" think we should revisit:
Loving v. Virginia, 388 U.S. 1 (1967), was a landmark civil rights decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in which the Court ruled that laws banning interracial marriage violate the Equal Protection and Due Process Clauses of the Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Beginning in 2013, it was cited as precedent in U.S. federal court decisions holding restrictions on same-sex marriage in the United States unconstitutional, including in the 2015 Supreme Court decision Obergefell v. Hodges....
