I think if it was my kid killed, I would definitely put out the pics, painful as it might be. But here's the problem: If you can say, factually and without commentary, that "an 18-year old kid legally bought two assault rifles and lots of ammunition and shot up an elementary school killing 19 kids and 2 teachers" and every person in any level of government doesn't say "we've got to do something about this" then the testimony, the crying parents and brave surviving kids won't make any difference. They frankly don't give a damn.
I think a lot of them would reply that that's the price we have to pay for freedom or something. Thing is, you can regulate firearms to prevent these kinds of massacres while still allowing citizens to access them.
Raise the age limit on firearm purchases. Outlaw certain types of rifles. Make it more difficult to purchase a gun on the fly. Surely there's some things that can be done.

Could be done, but won't

Nothing meaningful is going to get done about guns for the same reason nothing ever gets done about homelessness, climate change, child food insecurity, or medical system. People want a single "simple" solution that simply does not exist. And by dividing themselves into two warring political tribes they can nit-pick each others' ideas because they wouldn't solve everything at once. The gun people are right in saying [gun laws] won't stop all gun violence, but the alternative is more lawlessness that also doesn't stop the violence. Personally, I can't imagine saying that it's more important for me to have the right to own an AR-15 (which I might not actually own anyway) than it is to save kids' and others lives. Without the assault rifles, the guy in Uvalde might still have attacked the classroom. But there is no other weapon he could have carried that could have created so much destruction so quickly.
Cable news is filled with the cops being trashed by usual cop defenders. As I posted, they repeatedly cite the post-Columbine standard of RAPID entry and assault. Columbine was 23 years ago.
The police chief is toast.
The sheriff is toast.
The local highway patrol commander may be toast.
Not sure about CBP. Could they have ignored the PD hesitancy?
If charges are possible, fine by me.
Most of the local cops should be shamed out of their jobs by the community, if not fired by local govt.
18 to 20 year old(ish)......white kid. No motive known.
Reportedly alone.
He could be next door or in Michigan by now.
Fuck.
I live a couple of blocks from the hospital.
Shortly after this started when we had no real information I saw my neighbor who works there rushing over there. I asked her if it was true. She just nodded yes with tears.
Helicopters have been buzzing overhead constantly.
Fuck.
