Yeah, but I'm not so sure this is the same thing. IMNVHO this is more brainless partisanship than hypocrisy, although certainly Republicans are hypocrites by definition. I think it shows just how dug in the Repukes are against anything proposed by the Dems - even voting not only against the interest of their constituents, but against their own family interest. You're pretty much an unredeemable shithead when you vote against a bill that your constituents want, that your family would benefit from, and that you yourself favor just to deny the "other side" a shared win.

I'm not informed enough to debate this issue or to read his mind, but many "incentives" like tax breaks could also be called "corporate welfare”. In general, I'm tired of industry demanding direct taxpayer largesse in order to produce products in the US or in one state or community over another. The kinds of incentives I like are more long term - improving worker education, infrastructure, healthcare, childcare, etc so that there are more successful environments for businesses to compete and thrive in.
Well I wouldn't be the one to argue that the system we have in the US is the best we could do, but it is what it is. And what it is, is a system where corporations, fulfilling their raison d'etre of maximizing profit, become commodities that offer some (real or theoretical) benefits to communities who want to "buy" them. And often, it works. Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill would not be nearly the great area it is now without the Research Triangle Park or some variation thereof. I doubt most people around Greenville-Spartanburg would argue that their purchase of Michelin and BMW wasn't worth it.
And if making chips in the US was such a profitable idea, sure somebody would do it and not require government incentives, but it's probably not. Huge start-up costs and questionable labor availability make it more risk than most companies would want.
I think there's more than a little specialized equipment and unique circumstances in actually making these things.....highly specialized machines, highly trained workers, "clean" rooms, etc. The factory would be more than just a standard building.
