Well, I don't know that Perot ever had a legit chance, but thinking of him does remind me of another sad truth. Reincarnate George Wallace from his 1968 campaign and you've got a real live 2022 mainstream Repug who'll probably win his race.

I would love to see 10 or 20 parties and the several election campaigns full of compromise, alliances and deals a runoff would generate in a first one over 50% wins, rather than a 3rd party spoiler.

I've always thought that I would prefer a parliamentary system. Give me someone that actually represents my views and that might occasionally have some sway in a coalition over constantly voting against the person that represents me the least and then being disappointed even when my choice wins. I'd probably vote for Greens and Socialists most of the time, but maybe occasionally a Libertarian or true Labor Party rep, possibly even the rare commie just to shake things up. Nah, probably not, I've never liked the irl commies I've met.
