At this point, it most certainly does.

Of course with their stadium, it might be termed Rats in the Cellar.

Ouch. (I even posted it on LNF. )
A truly devilish person might also mention that SF has dropped well below .500 after challenging for the NL West lead in July (?). Now 4th behind LA, SD, and AZ, 29.5 games back! At the moment your Cubs are stomping SF 4-0 at Wrigley, top of the 8th, gonna be 30 games back.

-0-? , probably not. Maybe I already did if he's lurking, as did you with your A's post on LNF. One predictable retort is that the SF record is still slightly better than the Cubs' record. Anyhow, 4-2 final, congrats!

This is kind of exciting, too:
New York Yankees' Aaron Judge hits 58th, 59th homers, moves within two of American League record

... His 59 home runs are the most by a right-handed batter in American League history, according to ESPN Stats & Information research.

Judge went 4-for-5 overall with three runs scored and four RBIs in the Yankees' 12-8 victory.

Judge's 11th multihomer game tied the season record set by Detroit's Hank Greenberg 1938 and matched by the Chicago Cubs' Sammy Sosa in 1998....

With 16 games remaining, Judge has ample time to become only the third AL player to reach 60 home runs. Babe Ruth first did so in 1927, and Roger Maris broke his record -- and for nearly four decades held the major league mark -- with 61 in 1961....

On the season, Judge is hitting .316/.419/.701 with 59 home runs, 127 RBIs and 16 stolen bases while spending a majority of his games playing center field regularly for the first time. He is set to reach free agency this winter and is expected to command a contract worth more than $300 million.

Seeking a Triple Crown, Judge leads the major leagues in homers and RBIs. His .3162 batting average is just behind AL leader Luis Arraez of Minnesota at .317 and Boston's Xander Bogaerts at .3164.
Finally, an Aaron to root for. Some commenters are saying that 61 IS still the MLB record since only steroid-free counts, Hank Aaron's 755, too. It's hard to disagree.

Oh, puh-leeze. Are those the same people that said Maris' 61 didn't count because the schedule had more games?
I didn't write this article, but I could have if I had looked up all the stats:

The author dismisses the case against Barry Bonds, but it's actually pretty persuasive:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barry_Bonds#BALCO_scandal

I'm fine with accepting the "official" MLB records while also noting:
Steroids
Expanded season
Segregation

Your link:
... You can argue MLB should vacate the numbers, I suppose, but it hasn't....

If you're one of the people who really hates the numbers from the 1998-2001 seasons, by all means, believe that Judge has the "clean" record, should he get to 62. It's your right....
I do.

Ruth didn't have a choice to play in an integrated league.
Maris didn't have a say over the season length.
The juicers knew that it was cheating, knew that it was wrong, knew that discovery would hurt baseball, and still made the choice to juice.

Any record in any sport can always have woulda coulda shoulda whatif whaddabouts. I see your point, but you do realize that the logic of tinkering with a record using criteria that wasn't present at the time would lead to not giving full credit to a record earned by a Red Sox player because most of his home runs were hit in short field Fenway.

Fun facts: https://www.nbcsports.com/washington/na ... 0direction.

61?

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/al ... r-AA1298Ao
... The MLB Statcast numbers show the fans had reason to be excited. Judge hit the ball with an exit velocity of 113.0 mph and watched it travel 404 feet. It was the hardest-hit and longest-hit ball of the night, in a game that saw two actual homers.

Unfortunately, Judge just happened to hit the ball to the deepest part of the ballpark, and so history will have to wait at least one more day, with Friday spent exclusively within the confines of Apple TV+....
