I don't see the article mentioning 1916. Why is this NAIA game important to you? Is it just that there's a score typo in the first sentence? It was 47-37.billy.pilgrim wrote: ↑Wed Sep 21, 2022 9:22 amhttps://www.gocumberlandathletics.com/football/
"PIKEVILLE, Ky.--Lee Kirkland and the Pikeville Bears hang 47 points and 662 offensive yards to outduel the Phoenix, 47-24.
Cumberland (2-1, 0-1 MSC) put up 37 for their most in a game on the season, but could not slow down the Pikeville offense allowing big plays to suffer their first loss of the season.
The Phoenix will take on No. 10 Georgetown next Saturday at home. Kickoff is slated for 1:30 p.m. central time. "
The Phoenix rising from the ashes of 1916.
O Really wrote: ↑Wed Sep 21, 2022 1:58 pmHoly shit, horror of horrors, UNC QB says people go to NC State who can't get into Carolina! And has to apologize for it. Apologize? Puh-leeze. Nevermind if it's true, and there's an argument that it is, that's been a common tease since before I was there back when dinosaurs roamed Franklin Street. NC State was also referred to as "cow college" and "moo U" in reference to its excellent agricultural programs.
Sure, maybe a public press conference isn't the best place to trash talk, but c'mon, that's ridiculous.

1916 was a bad year for the school where my Dad attended (much later) and where he later served as vp and president.Vrede too wrote: ↑Wed Sep 21, 2022 11:00 amI don't see the article mentioning 1916. Has Auburn ever stomped Alabama and LSU and tied Clemson in a season?... The pinnacle of the early days of CU football was the 1903 season that began with a (6–0) win over Vanderbilt then a (0–6) loss to Sewanee and continued with a five-day road trip with victories over Alabama (44–0) November 14, 1903, LSU (41–0) November 16, 1903, and Tulane (28–0) November 18, 1903. Cumberland played a postseason game against Coach John Heisman's Clemson team on Thanksgiving Day that ended in an 11–11 tie and a record of 4–1–1. This gave Coach A.L. Phillips and Cumberland University the Championship of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
Give credit, the 10 point loss was their first loss of the season.Vrede too wrote: ↑Wed Sep 21, 2022 3:33 pmAh, no wonder you're proud of "rising" to a 10-point loss.billy.pilgrim wrote: ↑Wed Sep 21, 2022 3:05 pm1916 was a bad year for the school where my Dad attended (much later) and where he later served as vp and president.Vrede too wrote: ↑Wed Sep 21, 2022 11:00 amI don't see the article mentioning 1916. Never like this Alabama (44–0) and LSU (41–0)

Utah student arrested for allegedly making nuclear bomb threat if football team lost
A student at the University of Utah was arrested Wednesday after police said she allegedly threatened to detonate a nuclear reactor on campus if the football team lost to San Diego State this past weekend....
"tsunami"... The student wasn't bluffing about the presence of a reactor — one has been housed in the university's engineering building since 1972. However, the reactor is very small compared to others around the world. It's only about the size of a microwave oven, according to a 2011 article from the Deseret News. It also only generates enough power to heat the thousands of gallons of water its immersed in, according to Utah professor Gary Sandquist.
"There's absolutely no risk," Sandquist said in 2011. "It would probably be a greater risk that we'd have a tsunami from the West Coast that would reach Salt Lake before the reactor would cause any problems."

You've already written Blufield's epitaph? How long is his contract for and can Auburn afford serial buyouts?billy.pilgrim wrote: ↑Fri Sep 23, 2022 11:28 amI don't believe you grow up with his level of bragging, showmanship and entitled attitude without it sticking.
I'm kinda hoping for Huge Freeze, or even Lane.

I don't mind it as much when they've got the talent to back it up, and Sanders has the honors and rings to prove the talent. I haven't followed his post-play career closely. He hasn't pissed me off as an analyst, but that's the most I can say about that or coaching.
The guy's an idiot. We've been shedding coaches and players since the day he started.O Really wrote: ↑Fri Sep 23, 2022 1:26 pmI'm not exactly sure where Auburn is, but it's pretty clear it's not Boise.
