U.S. Supreme Court throws out rulings upholding gun restrictions

On the heels of last week's landmark ruling expanding individual gun rights, the U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday threw out several lower court rulings that had upheld gun restrictions including bans on assault-style rifles in Maryland and large-capacity ammunition magazines in New Jersey and California.

The actions by the justices sent these cases back to lower courts to reconsider in light of their June 23 ruling that declared for the first time a constitutional right to carry a handgun in public for self defense.

Last week's 6-3 ruling, with the conservative justices in the majority and liberal justices in dissent, struck down New York state's limits on carrying concealed handguns outside the home. The court found that the law, enacted in 1913, violated a person's right to "keep and bear arms" under the Second Amendment....

Sharp-eyed viewers spotted a big problem with how Rep. Ronny Jackson was holding one of his assault rifles.

Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-Tex.) fired off an angry video message aimed at President Joe Biden’s administration.

On the same day four people were killed in a mass shooting at an Indiana mall, and less than two months after a mass shooter at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, slaughtered 19 children and two teachers, Jackson tweeted:



... Jackson was once White House physician to presidents Barack Obama and Donald Trump, but has since turned into a conspiracy theorist ― and is so loyal to Trump that he once claimed the then-president could live to 200.

Jackson’s critics called him out over the video — and also targeted the dangerous way he was holding one of his weapons:

Rule #1 in firearm safety: Never point your firearm at anything you don't intend to shoot.

Guess Ronny is a little pissed at his foot.

This guy is a poster child for red flag laws.

When mass shooters are later found to have posted videos like this everyone asks why nothing was done.

Today, three people died in a mass shooting at a mall in Indiana and Ronny Jackson threatened Biden with his AR-15.

"I am far more likely to accidentally shoot myself with this gun than I am to stop an active shooter with it."

This is a man that once was a physician. A man that once believed in First Do No Harm and now posts videos suggesting harm is all that's left. Pathetic. #VoteBlue2022

Republicans are like contestants on "Let's Make a Deal". Early on in the show, audience members came dressed in regular clothes. Then sometime somebody wore a costume and got selected to be a contestant. Before long, everybody was wearing costumes each trying to be more outrageous than the others. But then the costumes weren't enough so the would-be contestants started including dances, other props and signs. The difference in the contestants and the Republicans is that the contestants know they're just putting on an act to get selected and will take off the clown nose when they leave the show building.

Shots fired in US schools spiked dramatically last year, gun violence report finds

No school year in the U.S. in nearly a decade saw as much gunfire as the 2021-2022 academic calendar, a report released Friday shows.

The report was published by Everytown For Gun Safety, a nonpartisan group advocating against gun violence. It shows the last school year, between Aug. 1 and May 31, saw 193 incidents of gunfire, more than doubling the total of the previous year.

For the report, Everytown tracked data going back to the 2013-2014 school year. No other school year had more than 75 incidents of gunfire. The 2021-2022 incidents led to 59 deaths and 138 injuries, Everytown reported.

“We don’t have to live this way, our children and educators sure as hell shouldn’t die this way," said Shannon Watts, the founder of Moms Demand Action, which is part of Everytown For Gun Safety....

The report lays out how easy access to guns at home is one of the biggest factors leading to shootings, and how securely storing guns at home is one of the simplest ways to prevent students from bringing them to school.

At least 5.4 million children lived in a home with at least one unlocked and loaded firearm in 2021, the group's data shows.

Over the past two years, Moms Demand Action has focused on getting local school boards to enact policies requiring students to be sent home with instructions about how to safely secure firearms.

In December 2021, the group's efforts led to school boards in Arizona, California, Colorado, Oregon, Texas and Vermont passing secure firearms awareness policies impacting more than two million students.

“It comes down to keeping guns out of schools in the first place," Watts said. "So it’s not a reactive measure, like a drill, is a proactive measure to keep guns out of the hands of students and out of schools.”

This month, California's legislature passed the first law of its kind requiring schools to inform families of the state's firearm storage laws....
