Corgi power!
Things like this give this atheist pause:
It's going to take me awhile to get used to seeing, hearing and saying "King Charles".Double rainbow appears over Buckingham Palace just before death of Queen Elizabeth II is announced
As crowds gathered in rain-swept London Thursday evening due to the news that Queen Elizabeth II was gravely ill, the clouds suddenly parted, revealing a double rainbow above Buckingham Palace.
Approximately 20 minutes after the appearance of the rainbow, the palace issued a statement at 6:30 p.m. local time announcing that Elizabeth had passed away at Balmoral Castle, her retreat in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

Good one.
Long live Queen Consort Camilla.

Interesting article. She and Charles did a lot to rehab their images over the years, not counting the situation with Harry and Meghan. Camilla's righteous good works are described at the end.

Re: In Memoriam
How strange to spend an entire life preparing for a role that one only gets to assume at 73. I think that I would have said, "Fuck it, I'm going surfing," decades ago. He's obviously got the longevity genes, but it's also affected by social and environmental factors. He could die a perfectly natural death tomorrow.Charles III (Charles Philip Arthur George; born 14 November 1948) is King of the United Kingdom and 14 other Commonwealth realms. He acceded to the throne on 8 September 2022 upon the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. As Duke of Cornwall and Duke of Rothesay from 1952 to his accession, he was the oldest and the longest-serving heir apparent in British history, and the longest-serving Prince of Wales, having held the title from 26 July 1958 until his accession. At 73 years of age, Charles is also the oldest person ever to assume the British throne. The record was previously held by William IV at age 64....

Re: In Memoriam
There had been talk from time to time in the past decade or so that Charles might do just that (maybe not surf) and skip to William. It would be hard, though, to pass up the opportunity to be King of England, even it's for a relatively short time.Vrede too wrote: ↑Fri Sep 09, 2022 1:01 pmHow strange to spend an entire life preparing for a role that one only gets to assume at 73. I would have probably stomped the whole thing by the time I was 35 and just enjoyed the prestige and novelty of a renegade royal for a long time. I could do that. The rest of the family would consider me a menace. Sort of like that Andrew guy but I'd stick with young girls that were a little older.Vrede too wrote: ↑Fri Sep 09, 2022 1:01 pmHow strange to spend an entire life preparing for a role that one only gets to assume at 73. In Celebration
Ken Starr, the prosecutor on the Clinton Whitewater investigation, has died at 76
Rest in Purgatory.
I would drive out of my way in order to dance on his Texas (?) grave.

Guesses for the note that Charles placed on the coffin? I vote for brevity:

Re: In Memoriam
I didn't either.
When casting the role of Kai Winn Adami I see her as someone like Nurse Ratched. Hmm . . .
Louise Fletcher worked a lot:

Good for her.

Sacheen Littlefeather, Native American activist, dies. I remember when Marlon Brando sent her to the Academy Awards to refuse to accept his Oscar for The Godfather. Brando had also been an advocate for Native Americans at that time.
