Very possibly another prize for the insurance companies, credit to Gov Ron DeSantis, although Rick Scott may be at least partially responsible, but bottom line is there are a lot of people in Florida who can't get homeowners insurance.

I got my 30 day notice of cancelation about 3 weeks before we closed on our sale.

Mostly it's just power to the insurance companies. Most are now requiring the roof to be less than 4 years old. So your $25,000 35 year roof may get you a 1 year policy. Who knows about next year.

Florida power companies have long been upset at having to buy excess solar from customers at retail price. It looks as if they've found a screw you work around through insurance.

And I can't get over how close we came. Our house was on the market for all of 4 days. If we had waited another week, we would probably still be dropping our price looking for a buyer.
Our extreme downsizing wasn't meant to be long term, but I'm liking the little house more and more. Besides, if insurance rates become prohibited, I can self-insure.

Sucks about the solar. We had planned on adding it here before the new system takes effect next year with an exchange favorable to the electric company.

Once you're accustomed to smaller space and less stuff, it's very satisfying and satisfactory.

A few years ago we had houses in two states, plus having to tend/rent/sell my parents' house, a couple of cars, plus the camper truck and an '89 Blazer hobby car, kayaks, bikes, gear up the ying yang. Sure we used most of it occasionally, but the lightness of life since we got rid of it all is really good and we miss nothing Want to go kayaking or biking? People rent that stuff. Simple life is a free life.
