There's an incredible amount of whining coming from all the northerners who moved to a waterfront subdivision in Florida and used all their inland living experience to determine they didn't need flood insurance.
I just watched what was billed as a heartbreaking story about a couple from Wisconsin who moved to their new Florida home in February, found one they liked better and bought it in September, but hadn't gotten around to claiming either as their primary residence as they still owned their Wisconsin property as their primary. They also hadn't opted for flood insurance because they weren't directly on the water.
Since they didn't have flood insurance, naturally they felt that the government should pay for their stupidity through FEMA.
Outrage ensued when they were told that FEMA assistance only applies to your primary residence. .
Forgive me if I don't care why they didn't get insurance. I'm sure I'll be outraged enough when these idiots are afforded a bailout with my tax dollars.
Of course the interview didn't include that they will be able to get a very low interest SBA loan for anything not covered by insurance.

Cat 1 at SE FL landfall. I'll predict Cat 2. TS will pass well east of me, but if it swings further west . . .
Might it redevelop back into a hurricane once back in the Atlantic?

These storms should emphasize republican failures to deal with emergencies using republican methods, instead DeSantis goes full on liberal governor nanny and starts changing laws and shoveling money for votes.
We gotta take care of our snowbird class who stupidly didn't buy flood insurance; after all, they can vote here and back home. We promise not to investigate.

Ftr, Whack9 and I are now in the crosshairs, but only as a TD. Worth it for the symbology of Mar-a-Lardo getting struck, even if there isn't heavy damage.

Built in 1927 when gravity was a primary construction element. Today, something like 70% of the construction design is to hold structures together without gravity.
Come fly away with the trumps, oh please, oh please

Because of trees falling? I can relate. I like walking in burn areas, but . . .
Would try not to camp under burned trees, but in big, dense burns it was sometimes unavoidable.
