Idk if GoCubsGo has a team. Illinois, Northwestern?
The Mighty Wildkitties.

It's a Back to the Future year this year, reminding me of the good old days when and if they got a win it was cause for celebration.

Chicago is pretty much a professional sports town, didn't really follow college sports growing up. Still mostly don't.

On September 25, 1982 in my first apartment with a couple of buddies two of us were hanging out (probably doing bongs hits) listening to the the Northwestern game as myself and that roomies were night students there. The Kitties had a whopping 34 game losing streak at that point but were winning the game. So the natural thing to do was hop in the car and catch the 4th quarter (that was a cool apartment, literally the last
northern street of Chicago before Evanston and right on Lake Michigan. We had really good parties)
7508 N Eastlake Terrace

Somewhere in the video vaults of WBBM TV there's footage of me celebrating like an idiot. We didn't accompany the goalposts down to the lake after the win though, left that for the real students.

Deja vu. Northwestern began the season by beating Nebraska, then has lost 7 straight including to Duke and MD. Ouch. It also got 0 votes. ;)

My niece considered attending Northwestern, but chose Duke, instead. Ouch. She's now doing post-grad in Econ at Berkeley. Cal is 3-5, 1-4 including losses to Washington and 8 Oregon, and also got 0 votes. :(

FCS Coaches Poll
No changes with the top 4
1 South Dakota State(25) 7-1. Won
2 Montana State 7-1. Bye
3 Sacramento State(1) 7-0. Beat #23 Idaho 31-28 @Sac St
4 North Dakota State 5-2. Won
5 Jackson State 7-0 up1  GoDeionGo. Won
6 Chattanooga 6-1 up2. Lost to unranked @Furman 20-24.
7 Weber State 6-1 down2 after getting beaten by #2 Montana State and their own long snapper. Won

10 Montana 5-2 down3 :( , but fair enough after getting beaten by #3 Sacramento State. Lost 21-24 to #7 @Weber State :( Ut-oh, post-season may be getting shaky, 5-3, 2-3, 6th in Big Sky :puke-left: .

Weber State will move up, Chattanooga and Montana will drop.

4 games left, including @#7 Weber State and @#2 Montana State. With Big Sky Conference losses to #3 Sacramento State and #23 Idaho, and with Montana State and Sacramento State unbeaten in the conference, the automatic conference bid to the playoffs may be out of reach. However, there are 11 automatic bids and 24 slots, so an at-large bid is definitely still in play.
The top 5 are unchanged.
GO Montana State and Deion.
Montana dropped to #13, coulda been worse. I think it's out of the playoffs :( , but maaaybe it's on the bubble.

Yay! Hero to Zero. But he'll take Auburn's buyout and still get a job in some other program that thinks he'll be "different."

But we're so incredibly excited.
Finding a great coach can be tough and take years. We'll see how it goes with Cadillac as the remp coach

'“I am incredibly disappointed that I won’t get to lead the Auburn football program and these players into the future,” Harsin said. “I poured my heart and soul into this program and team. We stood together in the face of considerable challenges and outside noise.

“Through my entire time at Auburn we did things the right way, which is not always the easy way. I am very proud of the resolve shown by everyone in our facility and incredibly grateful for those at Auburn who stood by me and my family. I am certain that this group of players will do great things. I will miss you guys tremendously but will always be there for you and do anything I can to help moving forward. Thank you for believing in me.”

Harsin was hired in December 2020 to help revitalize a program that had grown stale under former coach Gus Malzahn. Then-athletics director Allen Greene signed Harsin to a six-year contract, pulling him away from his alma mater, Boise State, where he had gone 69-19 as head coach."

Not entirely.
Bryan Harsin contract buyout: How much Auburn will pay fired coach (while still paying Gus Malzahn)

Image
(thought bubble: "FU WDE, but I've got your money, haha)

... Harsin's tenure was nothing short of a disaster for the program, with the former Boise State head coach leading the Tigers to a 9-12 record (4-9 in SEC play) in just 21 games at the helm. But while the decision to fire him was certainly justified, it's not going to come cheap....

When Bryan Harsin signed a six-year, $31.5 million contract back in December 2020, it included a buyout clause amounting to 70% of whatever remained on his deal at the time of firing.

According to Nathan King of 247Sports, that figure is in the neighborhood of $15.3 million with at least half to be paid within 30 days.

To make matters worse, the school still hasn't even finished paying off the contract of Harsin's predecessor, Gus Malzahn.

Malzahn, who spent eight seasons as Auburn's head coach and led them to a national championship game appearance in 2014, had a massive contract buyout of $21.45 million. Half of it was paid within 30 days of his firing, with the other half set to be paid in annual installments of $2.68 million over four years. After some quick math, we can surmise the program still owes Malzahn somewhere in the range of $5-8 million.

All of this means the school will end up paying nearly $40 million over the course of several years to head coaches who aren't even with the program anymore. You don't need to be a math expert to know that's a lot of dead money....
Dayyum, coulda bribed a lot of zebras with $40 million. Unlike alimony, there's no reduction if Blufield "marries" a different program.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cadillac_Williams

"In 2004, Williams decided to return for his senior year at Auburn. This turned out to be a wise decision as he, along with quarterback Jason Campbell, Brown and others, helped lead the Tigers to an SEC Championship and Sugar Bowl winning season, finishing with a perfect 13–0 record and a controversial #2 ranking behind the University of Southern California. Williams went on to earn All-American honors and was named to the All-SEC first-team as both a running back and return specialist. He led the team in rushing for the third time with 1,165 yards on 239 carries (4.9 avg.) and scored 12 touchdowns. He finished the season with 1,718 all-purpose yards, the third highest single-season output in Auburn school history. Williams also threw one touchdown pass against Georgia. Some argue that Williams' senior year performance was not as good statistically (4.9-yard rushing average for example, the lowest in his college career) as his others because of poor blocking, while others argue that it was because defenses focused on him specifically.[11]"

oops rheres been fat finger t vs r exchange. Hope this makes up for it, remporarily at least.

  Rhank you.
Coaching career

Williams served as an offensive graduate assistant at the University of West Georgia in Carrollton, Georgia for the 2016 season. Williams later served as the running backs coach for the newly created IMG White football team at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.

In 2018, Williams became the running backs coach for the Birmingham Iron of the Alliance of American Football. On January 23, 2019, he was hired as Auburn's running backs coach under head coach Gus Malzahn. Auburn fired Malzahn after the 2020 season; new head coach Bryan Harsin retained Williams as running backs coach. On October 31st, 2022, Auburn fired Harsin and named Williams the interim head coach.
Top pre-Blufield hire? Usually an O or D coordinator gets the interim job. Hm, not yet very qualified for an elite school Head Coach job, but:
Carnell Lamar "Cadillac" Williams

... Williams currently serves as Interim Head Coach for the Auburn Tigers football team, the first African American to hold the position in Auburn history. He played college football at Auburn....
He does bring Carnell Knowledge to the post  . If he's at all decent it may be hard to dump him unless it's for another African American like Deion. Good.

:D Good question, but UW had just scored to tie it up at 21 with 11:36 left and neither team scored again until the walkoff FG. If there was an advantage other than to the concessionaires (hmmm), I didn't see it.

btw Auburn is my clear favorite to win tonight - guaranteed.

Right now, it's going Florida over the ATMs and their 12th man bs.
I don't understand their continued 12th man claim. That unsportsmanlike bs was stopped when they wanted to do it in the SEC.
ATM just scored again.
