It's the economy, stupid.

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Funny thing is, the economy has historically performed better under Democrats.

The DNC needs a better PR firm.

RepuQs hate America:
GDP Report Is Bad News For Republican Recession Claims
Republicans dismissed the positive third-quarter GDP report after treating the first two negative quarters as gospel.

All summer, Republicans claimed the U.S. economy was in a recession because the country’s overall economic growth went negative for the first half of the year.

“Everything about the Biden Recession was predictable — and avoidable,” House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy proclaimed in July. “Only Democrats in Washington chose not to see it coming.”

McCarthy and others argued that two quarters of negative growth automatically amounted to a recession — even though recessions usually involve mass job loss, not just negative growth. And there’s been nothing but rapid job growth this year.

On Thursday, the Commerce Department announced the economy grew in the third quarter.

The positive growth doesn’t mean there’s no recession lurking around the corner ― but it does mean that if one had already started this year, it was really mild, involved no widespread layoffs, and the unemployment rate remained near historic lows the entire time.

In a statement reacting to the 2.6% increase in gross domestic product, President Joe Biden did a victory lap around his haters.

“For months, doomsayers have been arguing that the U.S. economy is in a recession and congressional Republicans have been rooting for a downturn,” Biden said. “But today we got further evidence that our economic recovery is continuing to power forward.” ...
Cool, but the DNC PR firm is unlikely to leverage it successfully.

They pitifully couldn't even get other dems to stop using the republican death moniker for the ACA. Wasn't it something like 90% of them hated obamacare and demanded it be repealed, while the majority of them were favorable to the ACA?

The dems haven't figured out that words are more important than ideas in the modern bumper sticker world.

Goggle "republican wordsmith".
Now wonder why we ain't got something similar.

It was stupidity, not integrity for dems to use Luntz's obamacare rather than ACA.

I'm asking whether integrity is the reason that half-truth pejoratives about righties don't gain the same traction on the left.

Why is insisting that dems call the aca the aca a half truth?

Is obamacare more or less correct?

I asked if "Integrity" prevents the left from playing the same exact game, meaning whether the left is less likely to create half-truth pejoratives about righties or less likely to adopt them.

Okay?

It does; however, I'm disappointed that the dems don't seem to understand that small words and phrases can communicate ideas as effectively as complex discussions.
We spent months trying to defend and explain Defund police, when we should have snatched the mic away from those idiots and loudly changed the conversation to changing the police.

The Right has a knack for demonizing otherwise neutral terms that the Left has not yet mastered - or maybe even tried to master. "Obamacare" isn't a bad term in itself, but the rightwingers were able to make it represent everything they didn't like about Obama - so if it's named "Obama" it must by definition be bad. They've demonized "liberal", "politically correct", and more recently "woke." Made all of them mean essentially "commie baby-eating pervert slime." "Defund the police" was misunderstood and intentionally distorted, but was still somebody stepping on their own dick. It was a majorly unfortunate choice of words and a self-owning unforced error.

For one thing, "Defund the police" was never a Dem creation. It came from the streets. So, the Dems were cornered into defending a problematic slogan or seeming to betray the streets in the midst of Justice Summer. Ugh.

Maybe the RepuQs created it.

And .most importantly, Obama is the black man who soiled the White House. Just attaching his name insures that half of republicans will always hate it.

And all the progressive media and even Obama himself somehow got the idea that doing nothing was the high road.
Clueless of why it was being called obamacare, Obama even said he was proud that it was named after him. I suppose that he was proud of how the word inspired racists to get out and vote.

It was allowed to continue and trying to explain it was pure idiocy.
Change it to Change the Police, or Reinvent the Police, or ..., just keep it simple for those who don't want depth and have a good solid policy behind the slogan for those who want more.
The slogan must be the public response because that's all most of the public wants.

The Dems could have tried that, but the streets wouldn't have gone along with it. It's a poser. Reallocate the Police and Reprioritize the Police aren't very sexy. I might have shifted the focus entirely with The Prison-Industrial Complex is a Failure

What "Time" says:

https://time.com/5936408/defund-the-pol ... -movement/
"some pundits and lawmakers argued the reason some Democrats in swing suburban districts lost their races was due in part to fear-mongering and misinformation surrounding the term “defund.”'

I have no idea if they lost races, but for damn sure they lost votes.

"If you have to explain a term like this so much that means it’s a bad term,” Aborn says, adding he is not against taking certain responsibilities away from the police. “The answer to excessive police conduct is not to eliminate the cops, it’s to change the conduct.”'

Someone gets it

'“I think language is very important,” adds Chi Osse, a Brooklyn activist currently running for a seat on NYC’s City Council. “I think the right has done a good job of changing what it actually means. Some people don’t even give you a chance to explain.”''

He agrees that language is important, but seems clueless about people and the need to communicate without having to explain, even though he sees and understands that the right understands.

Because Dems want politics to be about deep discussions of huge ideas, they will forever be beat by simple political 4 word bumper stickers.

At the risk of confirming your statement, this is offered as ammunition for Thanksgiving debates:

3 myths about the Trump tax cuts

The TCJA (2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act) paid for itself.
The tax cuts boosted growth.
The tax cuts boosted employment.

Good catchy slogans are always more effective than anything else. And sometimes they don't even have to be good. And often they don't have to be even close to true. And if they feed into existing myths all the better. Repugs are long-time experts at the propaganda game.
