We're only getting up to about 55 or so tomorrow, with expected heavy rain and some gusty wind. Weather chicks are going amuck. One said, and I quote "nobody is used to this much chill and wind. You'll need to emotionally prepare yourselves - and prepare yourselves for a rough day."
I think I'm sufficiently "emotionally prepared".Legal pot will help the populace with that. Blizzard warning for LA County, above 4000 feet, first time since 1989 (?). You may have an easy drive to sledding the day after tomorrow.
Los Angeles sees first blizzard warning since 1989
... California Highway Patrol closed the state's longest interstate - Interstate 5 - due to unsafe roadways, forcing heavier traffic onto Highway 101.
Forecasters are predicting snowfall of up to an incredible 8ft (2.4m) in mountains to the north and east of Los Angeles by Saturday.
The mountains are expected to experience powerful winds of 60-75mph (96-120 km/h) while coastal areas may experience flooding.
The icy weather front stretches along the entire US West Coast, as well as the Canadian province of British Columbia.
The winter storm warning is in effect for the coastal Ventura County mountains and Los Angeles County mountains from early Friday through Saturday, the National Weather Service (NWS) said.
Snowfall of up to 5ft is also possible on the mountain peaks around the city of Santa Barbara....
A weak tornado touched down in southeast Los Angeles county on Thursday, toppling some trees....
"I have to be totally honest with you guys," one baffled California meteorologist told viewers this week. "I've actually never seen a blizzard warning."

Portland, Oregon, had nearly 11in (28cm) of snowfall by overnight into Thursday morning, the NWS reported, its second snowiest day ever recorded....
Meanwhile, temperatures in Washington DC hit 81F (27C) on Thursday, a February high not seen since 1874.
More storms are expected to roll through California early next week.

Re: Weather
Through the luxury of having a choice, I haven't been anywhere that I needed chains in decades, but back when I did have to carry them around it seems they were real chain, heavy and cumbersome and a royal pain to install. The new ones seem to be some sort of spring thing, much lighter, and install much easier. It would still be miserable to be out in 15 degrees 20mph wind beside the highway trying to get your chains on.

Re: Weather
Understood. Coldest rainiest winter in San Diego County since at least 1989 and maybe forever depending on what you measure. But what's not reflected in the weather reports is that because there are several mini-climate zones, conditions vary substantially over the area. Today is "officially" a rainy day, and it did rain for about a half hour and may rain again this evening. But in between it's clear blue sky and warm sun - even with an air temp of low sixties. I'll try not to whine.

Adverse for some, a boon for most.
Large sections of California out of drought status for the first time in a long time
‘Epic’: Extreme storms have California near an all-time snowpack record set 40 years ago
A road sign peeks out from Highway 50 near Phillips Station in El Dorado County on Friday as state water managers measured the snowpack. At nearby Sierra-at-Tahoe resort, the snow total for the winter have reached nearly 500 inches (41 feet).
Wow.

Re: Weather
It's definitely a good thing to get a dent into the drought, but it hasn't been without issues, including upcoming big flood potential. Lot of people trapped in the mountains, some residents, but others who thought it would be cool to rent a place and watch the storm. Opps. Shoulda brought more food. Wrecks, slides, downed trees, crushed roofs, buried cars.
Meanwhile, at the coast, the only issue is running about 7-10 degrees under average high temp.
