A former associate of Rudy Giuliani is suing him for sexual assault and other wrongdoing, accusing Donald Trump's former personal lawyer of hiring her to fulfill his desire for a sexual relationship.

In a civil complaint filed on Monday in a New York state court in Manhattan, Noelle Dunphy said Giuliani began abusing her almost immediately after hiring her in January 2019 as a director of business development and making clear that satisfying his sexual demands was an "absolute requirement" of her job.

Dunphy also said Giuliani went on "alcohol-drenched rants that included sexist, racist, and antisemitic remarks" that made her work environment unbearable and firing her in January 2021 without paying salary she had agreed to defer.

So let's put Rudy's demands in context. There are generally two types of sexual harassment in employment. The easiest to understand is "quid pro quo" literally "this for that" which is what Rudy apparently did. That doesn't occur much anymore. Most common is "hostile environment" in which a Rudy will make life miserable for an employee in sexually-oriented ways, but it's not explicitly connected to the job. So how stupid is Rudy? Employers' first defence of harassment allegations is to say "it's against out policy"; "it's not related to either persons' job"; "the perp was acting out of his authority"...yada. By engaging in quid pro quo, Rudy not only made it much easier for the plaintiff, but because he was the top boss/owner/whatever, he made his company liable. And in this matter, it's not really an employee harassment claim but a civil claim of sexual assault, that dodges a lot of the hoops involved in employment law.

So over the years, I handled a lot of sexual harassment cases. How many of them actually alleged quid pro quo? That would be zip. And there were a lot of sleazy people working for sleazy employers who tried their best to get into the pants of their employees but none of them were stupid enough to make it a straight up demand as a condition of employment. None. Not the construction yahoos, not the tech bros, not the high ego medical people, not the big box store or fast food supervisors/lower management, not even the freewheeling pharma people who put up with a sales guy introducing himself as (first name) Denis - "sounds just like penis but I'm not really a dick" And yet there's Rudy - "sucking my dick is part of your job" or something like that. Incredible.
