Re: "Patriot" Hate Groups Reach New High
Getting back somewhat to the topic, I have yet to understand exactly how these "militia" groups expect to have any success. Do they expect to take the offensive, and attempt "John Brown" type raids? That might not necessarily be the best model. Or are they going to create a "Branch Davidians" version of the Alamo? Not a very good end to that one, either. How about following the plan of those attempting to stay out of the Civil War, who were hunted by the Outliers? Low chance of long term success. Guerilla warfare? Works somewhat in places like Iraq and Afghanistan, but those countries don't have the police and military expertise in place in the US. It works better for defence than offence, but what if nobody is chasing them? Will they stay in Idaho (wherever that is) or will they invade Manhattan? Do they expect to be insurgents, a US Taliban, or Bonnie and Clyde? Maybe they're going to do bombings and follow other terrorist strategy, a la McVeigh?
No matter what you try to imagine, it pretty much ends up with the "patriots" getting creamed or barbequed.

From what I've seen and heard about those tards, including the ones I know myself, I would guess that long term planning isn't part of their philosophy, and is not within their intellectual grasp, either.O Really wrote:Getting back somewhat to the topic, I have yet to understand exactly how these "militia" groups expect to have any success. No real surprise if that's true, but it's hard for me to relate to. It's like the "cold dead fingers" line. Sure, it's got a fatalistic Jame Deany air to it, but if you're a real person with a real family, are you really going to put your life and your family's life in danger by barricading yourself to defend against the [name of city] SWAT team or the National Guard? Do you really have an escape plan? Do you really think they're going to give you a helicopter and a ride to Jamaica? Or do you think they will recoil in terror from your cache of AR-15's and ammunition that you bought to run up the price and reduce the availability and just walk away and say, "OMG, we better leave that dude alone." Name two hostage instances where the hostage holder has walked away unscathed.Boatrocker wrote: From what I've seen and heard about those tards, including the ones I know myself, I would guess that long term planning isn't part of their philosophy, and is not within their intellectual grasp, either.

Heh. The last time in Canada was when an American hijacked a Canadian airliner to Cuba in 1971.O Really wrote:Name two hostage instances where the hostage holder has walked away unscathed.
30 years later Canadian police Googled his name and found him living in New York. New York's finest were notified, and he was arrested.
Note the date stamp on the story: Tuesday, September 11, 2001 | 8:50 AM ET.
Here's the New York Times story from the same morning.
Granted, there's never a good time to find yourself in a New York police station for hijacking a jetliner. But I think we can call that bad timing.

Yeah, I was on a plane back in '69 that got hijacked to Cairo. But back then they weren't going to crash them into buildings, and even that guy got splattered on the tarmac when he tried to "collect." These "patriots" really aren't giving this idea much thought.

Olympic Airlines commercial flight from Iraklion, Crete to Athens. Got hijacked to Cairo by a guy who turned out to be a neighbor of one of my friends. Got to Cairo, he tried to get off the plane and Egyptian police "eliminated" him before he got more than 20 yards from the plane. Passengers didn't get to get off. We stayed on the plane, particularly those of us who had US Diplomatic passports with high security, trying our best to look like garden variety tourists. No big deal, in the big picture. Plane refueled, headed back to Athens, and all was well. Sort of like all those that were hijacked to Cuba. Really Mayberryisc, compared to terrorist efforts today.Vrede wrote:Wow, love to hear that story sometime.
Most of the self-styled "revolutionaries" will never do anything more radical than kicking the dog and beating up their wife. A pitiful few will be stupid enough to end up dead or in jail.

The NRA and the Republicans like to tell us that The 2nd Amendment is about resisting government tyranny.O Really wrote:Getting back somewhat to the topic, I have yet to understand exactly how these "militia" groups expect to have any success.
So if Bill Ayers and the Weather Underground had stuck to guns, would the NRA and Republican Party call them patriots?

League of The South, fershure. The old TGN forum once had a guy- don't remember his handle- who came to SC as a Xtian Xodus cultist. He was a hoot, and seemed to be leaning away from the cult, just a little, before the TGN forum went kaput.Ombudsman wrote: . . . Wonder which of these hate groups Partisan62 worships?

He seems like the kind of mouth breather who'd easily be swept up in backwoods propaganda from any southern white male dominated fringe group.

The American Patriot movement is our fault. A Canadian rebellion that overflowed into the US.
It led to the largest deployment of American troops against their own citizens since the Whiskey Rebellion. And we sent the US steamship Caroline over the Niagara falls.
Sorry.

Re: "Patriot" Hate Groups Reach New High
The story mentions the Homeland Security report leaked in 2009, a couple months after Obama was sworn in. The far right had a conniption fit after that one too, calling it evidence to support all their anti-Obama fantasies.
Then people pointed out how the document properties indicated that it was created in early 2007. During a Republican administration.
Which of course shut up *some* of them.

I agree with the premise of the story, but I'd say the coverage was significantly more than "... a smattering of media coverage over the weekend." It does appear most of the time the non-Muslims have "mental issues" and the Muslims are just Muslims. It seems a lot of people have a hard time getting their minds around the idea that other Americans can be anti-government (or anti-something) terrorists despite centuries of history showing that they can and are.
