So true

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcna101266

"Andrew Coats, the lawyer who convinced the Supreme Court in 1984 to allow universities to maximize football revenue, leading to a sweeping upheaval today, looks back with regret on the landmark case he successfully argued."
... The court of 1984 ruled, 7-2, in favor of Oklahoma and Georgia with dissent from Justices Byron “Whizzer” White and William Rehnquist.

Coats recalled running into White, himself a former college football star at Colorado, during a social function months after the decision and the associate justice uttering prescient words to him.

“He said to me, ‘Andy, you might have won that case, but you’ll regret it.’”
:(

The article discusses the impact of cross-country travel on students and families. There will be the same impact on coaches and staff, though most of them other than student volunteers and interns are at least getting paid. Then, there's the greenhouse gas impact. Counting families and fans how many people fly for each game? Hundreds, thousands at times? :puke-left: :ateeth:

Huge "home field" advantage for the Irish.
It's a shame for Ireland that they're stuck with such a likely noncompetitive game. This is not the way to build the sport.

Reasonable point, but I dunno if it would matter. Let's say a couple of pro cricket teams were playing in Charlotte, the crowd might not know, or care, if it was lopsided.

Maybe, but they'll have a pretty good idea after the boring and disappointing rout.

Assuming most of those attending would be for ND, it might be as entertaining as a Globetrotters- "Generals" that people have enjoyed for decades.

We're you expecting a club built on lies to suddenly become honest because it's sports?

:D Irishtrotters vs Admirals, though even the Harlem games weren't so lopsided. ND has scored a TD with each possession. Vegas was way too cautious, 28-0 at the half. The capacity (I think) crowd seems to be enjoying it.

Edit, 3rd quarter: 5 possessions, 5 TDs, 35-0.
Edit: Streak ended after 5 possessions, lame "game" ended 42-3.

I wasn't able to watch, but followed first 3 quarters on phone. Hawaii was ahead on every stat but the score.

We've got UMass for our 1st game.

I wonder if there's similar push-back against team name the Utes, as there is against FSU calling their team the Semi-holes? Is the criticism more local, or are the Utes getting a pass?

But as peck this out, I'm thinking that I haven't heard much about FSU during the past few years.

Kinda hard to make a stink when the Seminole tribe approves. I still think the chant and chop are offensive.
Nickname

The "Utes" nickname comes from the Ute tribe, from which the state of Utah derives its name. The Ute tribe gave the University of Utah explicit permission to use the name for all its athletic teams, which allowed the school to keep the name when the NCAA began pressuring member schools to drop Native American-themed names....

Before 1972, Utah used the nickname "Redskins". The university discontinued the practice because the term "Redskin" could be considered an ethnic slur and sometimes be considered offensive by Native Americans.
O Really never forgave them. :P

Do the Utes fans also do a chant and chop?

That's one Wiki author's interpretation. The dedicated Wiki page is more definitive:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redskin
... The term redskin underwent pejoration through the 19th to early 20th centuries and in contemporary dictionaries of American English it is labeled as offensive, disparaging, or insulting....
