Born again Christian Michelle Shocked's tirade

Michelle Shocked, a controversial singer and born-again Christian, is under fire for her anti-gay tirade during a concert on Sunday night in San Francisco.

Witnesses say she told the crowd at Yoshi's, "When they stop Prop 8 and force priests at gunpoint to marry gays, it will be the downfall of civilization, and Jesus will come back," and "You can go on Twitter and say, 'Michelle Shocked says God hates (anti-gay slur).' " The staff at the venue finally turned off the stage lights and pulled the plug on her performance.

The Twittersphere reacted, and so did the promoters of SPACE in Evanston, Ill., where she was set to perform on May 5. They posted this on their official Facebook page:

Foruntaely, capitalism is working well to reactify the issue.

UPDATE: LGBT activist John Becker has created a petition on Change.org demanding Shocked be held responsible for her hate speech and urging more than a dozen venues to cancel her upcoming shows. So far, nine venues have canceled. Telluride Blues Festival and the Harmony Bar in Wisc.

I have a few of her CDs from the old days. The general impression was she was
left wing. But that was a while back and I believe her sales likely fell off. I
didn't realize she became a born-again Christian, so I can understand why
folks who haven't kept up with her are, well, shocked. Then again there is the

I don't even know the Dixie chicks, but I find it an insult for all the men and women who fought and died in past wars when almost the majority of America jumped down their throats for voicing an opinion. My 12 year old daughter being a huge fan of Natalie Maines.. Me, my wife and daughter were at the American opening of the Chick's "Top of the World" tour here in Greenville.. . Bomb dogs.. protesting wing-nuts.. metal detectors.. purse searches and all.... . All went off without a single issue that I recall ...

You might want to read up on Christianity.

The new testament of the bible says nothing about homosexuality. The rules against it are in the old testament - along with all the rules promoting slavery, killing your children for being unruly, killing others for cutting their hair or wearing cloth made from different fibers or working on a Sunday, etc., etc., etc. In other words, the rules from the old Mosaic law that Christ said are no longer in effect.

The Christian church performed same-sex unions for a thousand years, from roughly 500AD to 1500AD.

The United Church, the largest Protestant denomination here, blesses and performs same-sex marriages. So do many other denominations. Even the Quakers support it.
