Even Dick Cheney supports same-sex marriage now. Are you going to tell us that he's a Democrat?
Dick Cheney don't mean shit to me. I don't give a damn what he supports or opposes.
That's nice. But whether you give a damn or not, the Republican Party is increasingly supporting same-sex marriage.
It may not look that way at the CPAC freak show, but the wingnuts will either be increasingly irrelevant, or they'll be increasingly relevant within the party and the party increasingly doomed.
March 17, 2013 PORTMAN INSPIRES OTHER REPUBLICANS TO STOP SPEAKING TO THEIR CHILDREN Posted by Andy Borowitz
WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—The decision of Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) to support same-sex marriage after learning that his son was gay has inspired hundreds of other Republican lawmakers to stop speaking to their children immediately, G.O.P. leaders confirmed today.
“I have gathered my caucus and told them, if your kids are going to tell you something that’s going to cost you the next election, it’s better to nip that situation in the bud,” said House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio). “Just stop talking to them altogether, for heaven’s sakes.”
Speaker Boehner said he was advising his fellow Republicans who were “hell bent on speaking to their children” to keep things superficial: “You can talk about sports. You can talk about the weather. But anything beyond that, your policy should be, ‘Don’t ask, don’t tell.’”
But even as Mr. Boehner laid down the new guidelines for not speaking to one’s children, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Virginia) said that the policy “doesn’t go far enough.”
“What if you’re having a conversation with your kids and it turns out they’re in favor of raising the capital-gains tax or banning assault rifles?” he said. “Do what I do—block their calls.”
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) agreed with his fellow G.O.P. leaders’ words of caution, adding, “Fortunately, none of my children want to talk to me.”

Tick-tock.
Republican Governor Scott Walker (WI) — a likely GOP candidate for president in 2016 — admitted on Sunday that young conservatives support marriage equality for gays and lesbians, suggesting that the Republican party cannot sustain its opposition to same-sex marriage into the future.
Responding to Sen. Rob Portman’s (R-OH) embrace of equal marriage rights during an appearance on Meet The Press, Walker said that the issue of marriage equality did not animate his governor’s race, but admitted to host David Gregory that the next generation of Republicans will expect the party to join the growing popular consensus in favor of full marriage rights and will not be interested in pursuing campaigns against gay people:
GREGORY: Are younger conservatives more apt to see marriage equality as something that is, you know, what they believe, that is basic rather than as a disqualifying issue?
WALKER: I think there’s no doubt about that. But I think that’s all the more reason, when I talk about things, I talk about the economic and fiscal crises in our state and in our country, that’s what people want to resonate about. They don’t want to get focused on those issues.
Walker also questioned why the government sanctions marriage in the first place, noting, “an alternative [would be] to say not have the government sanction it, period, and leave that up to the churches and the synagogues.”
New research released earlier this month found that “while 53 percent of eligible voters support marriage equality, 83 percent believe same-sex marriage will be legal nationwide within five to 10 years.” A majority of Republicans under the age of 30 also said that they “support marriage equality at the state level.”

Segregation was God's will, too. You atheists going around preaching that tolerance and equal rights and "Love thy neighbor as thyself" shit are going straight to hell.

Sorta like sticking your finger in the hole of an earthen dam to stop a leak.
I was out riding my horse the other night and stopped by a local bar to have a few beers. Well, while I was in there, someone cut my horse's head off and I had to ride back home with both my hands stuck down his windpipe.

Yeah, I think some of the more mainstream and pragmatic Republcians have seen the
writing on the wall and are moving, however slowly, toward either supporting gay
marriage or not talking about it very much. And it will drive the wingnuts up the
wall as the RINOs inch closer to the Democratic position. That will be fun to watch.

What's your stake in this earth shattering revelation?
Are you one of the passengers on one of these bandwagons of filthy faggots?
I'll give you a better answer than your pervert question deserves - My stake is a long term interest in and support of civil rights for all US residents. Over the years, I have been active in working with groups helping to achieve equal rights for African-Americans, Hispanics, and other groups disenfranchised or discriminated against. I've been an ACLU member for about 30 years and have served on case selection committees. A history of civil rights support runs in my family - I can go to the Civil Rights Museum in Birmingham, AL and find a picture of my dad getting sprayed by the Birmingham FD.
But I've given your point of view some thought, and I can't think of any reason why one's beliefs or legal behaviour - no matter how out of the mainstream - should require a citizen to forfeit his/her legal rights that are granted to all other citizens. If you have an argument as to why that should occur and can still justify why you should not have to forfeit your legal rights for off-the-wall beliefs and behaviour, then have at it.
As to posting pics of people in weird costumes in parades - meh, I've been to Mardi Gras and Bike Week too many times to be offended by that.

Oh, yeah. I grew up in B'ham in the 60s. I remember the fire hoses and Bull Conner's police dogs and even bulldozers. Now, my dad would not have been down there in support of civil rights for no damn n****rs.

I think there ought to be a law that before anybody is allowed to buy a pair of "Daisy Dukes" that they ought to have to closely review a picture of what the character "Daisy Duke" actually looked like. And they shouldn't make them in larger than a size 5.
