This year’s Republican National Convention will be held near the stunning turquoise waters and white sand beaches of Milwaukee, according to a parody video shown on “The Tonight Show” Wednesday....
The ad featured a voice-over from Fallon’s Donald Trump. “Next month the RNC invites you to experience beautiful Milwaukee, because it’s time for Republicans to take our country back,” it begins, over footage of a tropical white sand coastline.
“From the Capitol building to the White House, we’ll celebrate the wall on our southern border,” it goes on, showing images of the Taj Mahal, a White Castle restaurant and the Great Wall of China....
A MAGA insurgency seized the Greenville GOP. Here's an inside look at the ensuing chaos.
The hardliners who now control the party seized power three years ago when they ousted more traditional Republican leadership, a story that has become familiar across the country, from Arizona to Michigan.

Virtually everyone who comes to the party's weekly Coffee and Politics meetings, scheduled at 11:30 every Friday morning, are retirees. Many, if not most, moved here from somewhere else.
Ohio. Washington. California.
“I’m from the People’s Republic of New York,” one party member proclaimed at a recent meeting.
They came to Greenville to find lower housing prices and escape liberal politics, one after another said.
Overwhelmingly, they say, the two events that drove them to get involved with the local GOP are the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2020 presidential election, which they believe was stolen.

At one such recent meeting, regular attendee and state Senate candidate Ben Carper implied as he spoke to the room that former President George H.W. Bush was involved in the assassination of John F. Kennedy.
At another meeting, a Greenville GOP leader said he got involved because he believed both major parties were allowing a global communist conspiracy to take over the country.
The LGBTQ community is a frequent target of the group’s discontent.
“Those kids that have LGBTQ parents, they may be being abused right now, and they don’t have a voice,” said Susana Sarabia, a frequent speaker at local party events. “And then those kids are coming to school and abusing other people’s kids.”

More than an hour of a recent election integrity meeting was dedicated to demonstrations on surveillance equipment, including expensive cameras and license plate readers that could be installed in the home or in the car.
“When we confront those that are affecting elections, we want to do it with protections for us, meaning body cams and whatnot,” said Scott Geer, a committee member who was leading the session. “Because some people that want to affect elections can become quite distraught over what we’re doing.”
Eventually, the topic shifted to encompass pepper pellets, the self-defense applications of wasp spray and how to talk to the police if you kill someone in your home.
At a pro-life committee the same week, a party member theorized more counterprotesters outside of the Upstate's lone abortion clinic weren't being charged by police because the area's prosecutor was a "Soros solicitor," referring to billionaire and Democratic Party contributor George Soros, who features heavily in far-right conspiracy theories.
Republican Senate candidate Larry Hogan, the former governor of Maryland, humiliated Donald Trump by rebuffing the former president’s endorsement on Thursday.
“Gov. Hogan has been clear he is not supporting Donald Trump just as he didn’t in 2016 and 2020,” Hogan spokesperson Michael Ricci told Fox News when asked about Trump’s declaration of support....
Originally the good part about Trump running was that he was only playing to his base and hadn't gained any additional support. Somehow in 7 states where ostensibly literate people live, there's been some people say "yeah I think trump should have another chance." How is that even conceivable?

Before I get into my thoughts, am I to surmise that Billy.Pilgrim has passed? If so, sorry.
I came by to check and see how you guys are handling the president's cognitive decline. It is very obvious and will not get better. When do you expect the "LBJ moment"to arrive? When it occurs will Kamala be next in line.

Nothing really to handle, even assuming there is actually a "cognitive decline." I'd vote for a better choice if there was one, but there isn't - certainly not the apparent Republican candidate. Put up Hogan and let me have some reasonable expectation of having Dem control of at least one or preferably both Houses, and I'd vote for him.

What? Trump is the secret real president, he's just letting Biden pretend to be president. All the politicians against trump have been tried and executed. Trump is waiting for the right moment to be installed as the Real President. I thought you knew this.
