Bankrupted conspiracy theorist Alex Jones turned on Donald Trump on Monday over the former president recently distancing himself from Project 2025. Jones suggested that Trump is being controlled by his advisers as part of a power struggle—echoing the same criticism as white supremacist livestreamer Nick Fuentes.

“Trump gets told by his advisers and people who really just don’t want competition in his new White House.… ‘Oh God, these are radicals, sir. You’ve got to come out and distance yourself,’” Jones said, according to Newsweek....

After Trump publicly denied association with Project 2025 on Friday, claiming to have no idea what it is, white supremacist livestreamer Nick Fuentes claimed Trump’s disavowal was proof of Trump’s “assimilation into the establishment” and that his campaign is “controlled by billionaires”—which for Fuentes and his white supremacist followers is a not-so-subtle antisemitic dog whistle raising the specter of Jewish billionaires.

For as long as there have been people, probably, people have intentionally spread lies about others. Political candidates do it all the time, particularly in campaign ads. But saying something like "Senator Snort kicks his dog" is one thing; saying "Niagara Falls has run dry" is on an entirely different level. Things that can be easily disproved, where the lying repugs are literally saying "believe me and not what you clearly see and hear in front of your face" shouldn't last long, but they do. And the liars will say "Niagara is dry" and put up a badly composed pic that purports to show a dry Niagara. Thousands of people will say "I was there yesterday - it's not dry" and the liars just say, yes it is - you just saw a video show, it wasn't the real Niagara." And more people say "I'm at Niagara now with live video - it's not dry" but the liars just say "you're at the wrong falls - that's not Niagara, it's dry." And then people say "I live here; I'm on the Maid of the Mist right now. I promise you it's not dry". But the liars just say "fake news."

Exhausting, indeed.
