The Music Thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

YouTube must have thought I needed cheering up today, so they sent me this. Think that'll do it. Best guitarist ever.

Dobbs got the "crazy" part right, I suppose, but if 8 had picked music for his passing it might have been Linda Ronstadt "You're no good" or maybe Roy Clark "Thank God and Greyhound You're Gone"

Saw an interview with Nancy and she said she never plays it the same way.

Hope Ann recovers quickly.

1978.

Nancy was silohuated in fog wearing skin tight pants during the solo.

My sexuality was not in question.

Legendary Rocker Taunts Trump With Absolutely Biting Song Request For RNC Band
Steely Dan co-founder Donald Fagan had a blunt message after the Republican National Convention's band played a cover of "Reelin' In the Years."

... After the band Sixwire performed the Dan’s iconic song, “Reelin’ In the Years,” as part of its dad-rock-heavy RNC setlist, the band’s official Facebook page posted a message suggesting a different track instead: the anti-Trump ballad “Tin Foil Hat.”

Image

... The song in question isn’t a Steely Dan tune, but a Todd Rundgren track featuring Fagan ― and it’s very specifically about Trump.

Sixwire has won bipartisan acclaim on social media for its performances throughout the event. Ironically, a number of the songs the band has covered are from acts where the artists and/or their estates have distanced themselves from Trump, such as Tom Petty, Foo Fighters and Cheap Trick.
Even Dolt .45/RNC music is theft.

2017. New to me, too :headscratch: Very impressive deep fake for 7 years ago!
• Veteran producer, pioneering performer and legendary songwriter Todd Rundgren returns with a brand new album featuring a stellar line-up of all-star guest performers!

• White Knight showcases Rundgren's incredibly diverse range of styles from soulful art rock to ambient synth pop and includes performances from Rundgren's equally diverse musical companions such as Trent Reznor, Donald Fagen (of Steely Dan), Joe Walsh (of The Eagles), Daryl Hall, Dam Funk, Joe Satriani, Robyn and more!

Festival (1967 film)

Festival (stylized as Festival! ) is a 1967 American documentary film about the Newport Folk Festivals of the mid-1960’s, and the burgeoning counterculture movement of the era, written, produced, and directed by Murray Lerner.

Festival was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature in 1968.
Brilliant!
Tomatometer 100%, Audience Score 75%

Before Woodstock, there was the Newport Folk Festival, which was established in 1959 as a counterpart to the local jazz festival. This documentary focuses on some of the festival's most memorable and influential years -- 1963 through 1966 -- and the footage captures performances from the likes of Joan Baez, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan and Pete Seeger, among others. The artists also ruminate on the roots of their sound and the enduring appeal, and importance, of folk music.
The Newport Folk Festival persists, happening this weekend in Newport, Rhode Island. Joan Baez (age 83) is featured.

So I have no problem admitting to being somewhat of a Swiftie. She has a lot of qualities and talent I admire, and I like a lot of her music. Her primary demographic may be youngish females, but anybody who's ever been in any kind of a relationship can relate to the lyrics, and even if you don't, the music itself is good. Her imagery is excellent - who doesn't understand "All my mornings are Mondays stuck in an endless February"? But I've found another reason to like her during the European tour. (OK, so I don't know whether what she did was real or just a contrived part of the show, but either way, it's good. If real, it shows what kind of person she is: if contrived, it shows the detail she goes to to perfect her performance)

Most bands' big arena shows start with some guy come out and yells into the mic "Hello (town name) - are you ready to rock!?", or some variation of that. Not Taylor. At the start of the Edinburgh show (70,000 sold out), she comes out to Scotland-shaking waves of applause and steps off the stage to a riser, waves at and greets some people in the audience. Then, in a conversational tone (they had a great sound system), she tells them that the 70,000 attendance is the largest audience ever to see a concert in Scotland, and she thanks them for coming to see her. Then she says something like, "You've all come expecting to hear music based on my memories, my experiences, and some I made up. And you will hear that. But tonight isn't about me. You're all here making memories for yourself, and having an experience that you'll share with your families, friends, people you meet in the future and that you will never forget in your life. I'll be your host for that experience - my name is Taylor." And then she started with a song everybody knew ("Lover") and encouraged them to sing along.

Also during the tour, she has more than once paused the performance to summon assistance for an audience member apparently overcome with heat (or maybe just drunk, who knows) and in the Paris show, did it in French.

She has finished shows in a rainstorm, soaking wet to the skin, hair looking like she just got out of the shower and rain dripping off her nose, and she performed every song of the show set.

She's totally unruffled about anything that happens on stage, including not missing a note while helping up a dancer that slipped and fell.

I can't wait until she officially jumps on the Kamala bandwagon. I'm guessing during the convention - she's got a concert gap for 3 of the 4 days and a fueled up plane.

Gotta admit she's turned me around too. She's as down to earth as the most popular, billionaire, groupie infested international megastar surrounded by an entourage can be.

I'll also admit to streaming the Eras Tour on Disney+ and enjoying the show.
