In Memoriam

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Awww, now I am sad.

Make up award, but I'm ok with that.
The former accountant famously went without an Emmy Award until 2013, when he finally was given one for guest-starring as Arthur Jeffries (alias Professor Proton, former host of a children’s science show) on CBS’ The Big Bang Theory.

Once people reach a certain age the obits, etc are largely pre-written.

Jimmy Carter will have same-day retrospectives.

Age 80. That was 56 years his victims didn't get.
After release

On May 15, 1976, Calley married Penny Vick, the daughter of a Columbus, Georgia, jewelry store owner. Judge J. Robert Elliott attended the wedding. The couple had one son, William Laws Calley III,
Strange giving him a disgraced name.
and divorced in 2005 or 2006. Calley worked at his father-in-law's store and became a gemologist and obtained his real estate license, which had initially been denied due to his criminal record. During his divorce, Calley claimed to be suffering from prostate cancer and gastrointestinal problems leaving him with no chance of earning a living.

On August 19, 2009, while speaking to the Kiwanis Club of Greater Columbus, Calley issued an apology for his role in the My Lai massacre. Calley said:
There is not a day that goes by that I do not feel remorse for what happened that day in My Lai. I feel remorse for the Vietnamese who were killed, for their families, for the American soldiers involved and their families. I am very sorry.
As of 2018, Calley was living in Gainesville, Florida. He died there on April 28, 2024, at the age of 80. His death was not reported until July 29, when it was uncovered in public records. On his death certificate, a question asking if he had ever served "in U.S. armed forces," was marked with a "no".

Yeah, hominy, that's what I thought.....quite a thinkg to give your son your own infamous name. Self important asshole.

And I like how he was a liar to the end, saying that he didn't serve in the US military. But in one sense I suppose he's right.....he didn't "serve" but instead just brought dishonor to the US military as well as giving a big boost to the anti war movement. And they did kick his ass out.
