2024 Elections

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

ANY objective assessment would deem Kamala to be far more qualified than Dolt .45, Vance, Larry Kudlow (BA in History), and especially Tommy Potatotown. They are all the product of White male privilege.

I wonder exactly what "far-left" policies they're talking about.

It's not going to happen, but he'd make a great Vice President.

Pete's a very smart, capable, and likeable guy.
San Diego is pretty gay-friendly. We just had the 50th anniversary Pride Festival, with over 200,000 attendees. The mayor is gay. And even with that, if he were running for VP or Pres, his gayness would be an issue for a lot of people. I'm guessing there a lot of places that normally vote Dem, but with a thinner margin where being gay would cost him the election. Oregon elected a gay governor is 2022, but she would probably have lost if an "Independent" hadn't pulled 8%. Gay people can get elected from Seattle to Vancouver, but fare much worse from the Cascades east. Pete was a popular mayor in highly educated South Bend, population about half the size of Oceanside, but does anybody really think he'd win an Indiana state-wide office?

Fair or not, and I think not, running a gay guy is like adding an extra 200 pounds to your race horse. He might still win if he's stronger and faster than any of the others, but more likely a horse without the extra weight will win.

Maybe in our lifetime.
Lloyd Austin is 70 and has had some health issues.
Pete is a wartime veteran and has run a large department.
Sec Of Defense? Maybe not for a lowly lieutenant? -0-?

A neoplacebo-adjacent TN Rep has the answers:
GOP Lawmaker Finds A Way To Blame 'DEI' For Trump Shooting
Rep. Tim Burchett of Tennessee faced backlash for the "despicable misogynistic cheap shot."

... Kimberly Cheatle, the director of the Secret Service, served in the agency for 27 years in various roles — including on Joe Biden’s detail when he was vice president — before taking a role as senior director managing global security at PepsiCo North America....

TN's Burchett is joining the male White supremacist chorus:

GOP Rep. Burchett calls Harris a ‘DEI hire’

 As with the others, Kamala has a superior education to Burchett.

I am surprised by the level of unified excitement on the left, and by the widespread open racism and misogyny on the right. They're desperate and shameless.

He's such a good surrogate and so good at the political stuff I don't think that SecDef or SecState, which are not political type positions serves Harris well.

I'm surprised by the excitement too and I'm feeling it also. Sadly, I think a lot of it is due to the unease we had with Joe. He's been so good at doing his job but he was no longer inspiring and the thought of watching another debate was horrifying. Much like watching a car crash with fatalities.

Yeah, relief that Joe withdrew, but I was expecting more resignation that we're settling for Kamala in a chaotic and perilous year. Instead, genuine enthusiasm. NC is definitely back in play!
RCP Average 7/5 - 7/23
Trump (R) 47.5
Harris (D) 45.9
spread Trump +1.6
She could repeat Obama 2008. Kamala can win without NC, as Joe did, but I THINK that TRE45QN losing NC = losing the election.

Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly

Great guy, but AZ is purple and the Senate is a toss-up. Stay.
Kelly is not running this cycle and Arizona has a dem governor who names a replacement....
AZ does special elections, that's how Kelly first got in. An appointment would be temporary

Senate Democrats say Mark Kelly would be a 'superb' VP pick. But there's some anxiety.

... But some in the party are nervous about the idea of his leaving the Senate, fearing a Republican would win a special election in Arizona to finish his current term, which expires in January 2029. It's a factor some Democrats say should be weighed because the party has such a small majority and risks losing control of the chamber....

Kelly, who sources have confirmed is being vetted by Harris' team, won in Arizona in a 2020 special election, outperforming Joe Biden that year. He won again in 2022 for a six-year term. If he ascends to the vice presidency, Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs, a Democrat, could appoint a successor, but it could trigger a special election and put the seat up for grabs before his term ends....

(more pluses and minuses)
Play it safe, stay.

I see Trump and the Trumpsters are simultaneously blaming Kamala for all the real and imagined ills of the Biden administration while also claiming that she's done nothing for four years. How sad is it that all a major party has for a campaign is middle-school-level personal insults with about as much actual basis as a standard yo-mamma. Uh oh. I hope I don't give them ideas and they start with "Kamala so ugly her mama had to hang a pork chop around her neck to get the dog to play with her" or something of equal intellectual level.

Wait. Has California been bailed out several times? If I'm not mistaken California contributes more to the federal government than they receive. They're a net contributor. Not to mention the fifth largest economy in the world. I wouldn't expect tubberville to know that given his background as a college football coach. Not exactly someone that's contributed nor produced anything substantial. Just word salads of buzz words.

California is #41 in dependency, paying over $5 for every dollar received. You could have ended your sentence with "wouldn't expect tubber to know."
Anything after that would just be a given.

New poll of 18-34 year old voters: Kamala 60%, Felon 40%. Biden had held an 8 point lead in that group.

As a coach at a public university and now a Senator Potatotown is a career socialist worker, a White male example of reverse DEI.

As O Really says:
Alabama is the 12th Most Federally Dependent State.
California is #49 in this ranking.
New Jersey #50
Illinois #46
North Carolina #35
Maryland #16
South Carolina #9 :naughty:
Montana #8

That's great - and I'll bet they do a really good job with ABBA songs played straight, too.
