In any rational world, a tie in electoral votes would go to the popular vote winner, but our world is far from rational for Trump to even be on the ballot.

In any rational world, there would be no ties since the WH would go to the popular vote winner. The Electoral College is a relic of the compromise that was made with slavers and serves no modern beneficial purpose to our nation.
Former Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan (R) on Sunday criticized his party for staying silent as former President Trump attacked conservative stalwarts including Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) and Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger — both of whom resisted Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election in their state of Georgia....
“We have to call him out for what he is. He’s a felonist thug who walks down the street and throws sucker punches at people like Brian Kemp, like African American journalists, like John McCain, and the list goes on and on and on again,” Duncan continued.
“And the Republican Party is content sitting across the street watching it happen and not calling them out, not jumping into that fight and saying, ‘You are wrong for us,’” he said.
Cowards.
Duncan, who has said he’s voting for Vice President Harris in 2024, thinks Trump will lose the election in November and force the GOP to reexamine its platform and priorities.
“This 10 percent in the middle — which now feels like it’s growing to be bigger than 10 percent in the middle that’s going to decide this election — are paying attention, and I’ve never seen a human be more self-destructive than Donald Trump the last two weeks,” Duncan said.
“He continues to do it over and over and over again, and when he loses, and the Republican Party finally catches their breath and wakes up and says, ‘We need a GOP 2.0,’ there’ll be some people around, but it’s going to take time to fix.”...
, but there will be a large turnout against Asshole Mark Robinson for NC Gov. Will that have an upward coattails effect or will people split their tickets?

Why would they split?
If you're anti Robinson aren't you likely to be anti trump?

There's something about DonOLD that attracts irrational votes. One difference is that Robinson is a Black asshole while DonOLD is a White asshole. Another is that Robinson has been harsher on abortion. Why did we vote for Cooper and DonOLD 4 and 8 years ago?

I'm kinda used to it. MT has voted for red POTUSes for decades, mixed for Congress, and mostly Dems for state government. The latter is shifting as MT gets redder for all offices I think antipathy towards "big" federal government is part of it, even though RepuQs never really shrink government like they promise.
I may have just imagined it, but I think there was a time when the differences between most Dems and Repugs wasn't so stark. Where you had some liberalish-leaning Repugs and some conservativish Dems. And most of them realized they'd have to negotiate with others to get stuff done. Of course, in this land they rode unicorns to work, too.

Ah, the good old days. Ok Boomer.
The beginning of the end of civil discourse started with Clinton and Newt and the original witch hunt. It worsened with Obama the Freedom Caucus and 'You Lie'.
And here we are, on steroids that most people thought was unimaginable.

Whatever witch turned him into a Newt absolutely should be burned.
I think you're right - Newt getting into power was the stone that started the whole avalanche.

There are other factors:
SCOTUS gutting campaign finance reform; Citizens United exacerbating money in politics that was already out of control;
SCOTUS dumping the Voting Rights Act;
Mostly RepuQ gerrymandering creating so many safe seats that extremists take over the primaries;
SCOTUS deeming that partisan gerrymandering is peachy. Only racial gerrymandering is prohibited;
Foreign manipulation of social media;
And so on
