Michael Flynn’s Stunning Court Testimony Gives Away the Game

Michael Flynn admitted in a court deposition earlier this year that one of the biggest election fraud claims pushed by Donald Trump and his supporters had no evidence to back it up.

CNN reports that the QAnon devotee and former Trump national security adviser acknowledged under oath in April that he had seen no credible proof to suggest that an executive at Dominion Voting Systems fixed the 2020 election results using the company’s voting machines. This allegation was repeated and pushed by several far-right supporters of Trump in an attempt to claim the election was stolen.

The deposition was part of a lawsuit filed by former Dominion executive Eric Coomer against Flynn’s speaking tour, ReAwaken America, which has been promoting far-right conspiracies including election denial since 2021.

... Despite this admission, Flynn still insisted to NewsNation in May that the 2020 election was “filled with fraud,” with “clear evidence” to prove it, but didn’t provide any details when asked. In September, he spoke to Alex Jones about a Marxist plot to steal the election from Trump, and nearly two weeks ago told the audience at a Christian nationalist festival that Trump will unleash the “gates of hell” if he wins the election....

I have to figure you've seen the GQP House "report" on their "investigation" into the old Jan 6th committee......it finds Liz Cheney guilty of "witness tampering" and other batshit nonsense. When I first read of it, it reminded me of how I posted in the Idiot Box thread about how I liked the "Whose Line IsIt Anyway?" show when I posted that Republican House members should use the opening slogan of the show before starting any meetings....."let's make some stuff up." Because that's what they do.

... the real story here is the public conduct of Trump and Republicans, not that of Liz Cheney or what Trump supposedly “believes” about it. Trump is demonstrating that he’s eager for Cheney’s prosecution to proceed regardless of whether there’s any legitimate basis for it.

The story is that House Republicans are abusing their public roles to create a phony pretext for something that Trump already intended to do anyway: wield law enforcement as a weapon against his enemies with no serious legal predicate. And Senate Republicans appear willing to confirm Patel while knowing full well that Trump has expressly chosen him to carry out this extraordinary and degenerate abuse of power.

All of that is the story. How is it conceivable that the media is treating this as a conventional political moment? Trump’s veiled threat toward Cheney should prompt the press to revisit those reassurances from Republicans. GOP senators should be hounded mercilessly by reporters on whether they’ll knowingly support Patel now that Trump has made the corrupt reality of the situation so inescapably, alarmingly clear.

However, with our Trumpian judiciary, who knows?

Yeah, I've been wondering why the press isn't forcefully dismissing all the "weaponization of the Justice Department" bullshit constantly spewing from right wing media and Republican nutjobs.

First, ALL charges against trump are the result of his own actions, nothing else. I've yet to see any prominent media make that point.

Second, I remember Mitch McConnell standing on the floor of the Senate saying "we have a criminal justice system in this country" as a response to why the Republican Senators didn't convict him that second time. But now instead of us having a criminal justice system, they say the system itself is the criminal. Incredibly ignorant nonsense.
