Yeah, go SMU, but I'm not happy about it. But part of what I'm not happy about is having 17 teams in the "Atlantic Coast Conference". Go ahead and change the name to the "Coast to Coast Conference"

I know the real answer is "money" but I really have never understood the conference musical chairs over the past several years. Kinda takes away the concept of a "conference" of similar schools competitive with each other. Probably all the Terps' fault for thinking Maryland is in the Midwest.

Agreed. The greenhouse gases from flights are another reason to object.

It is, compared to Los Angeles x 2, Eugene and Seattle.

Penn State, about as far from the Midwest as UMD, joined the Big Ten in 1991. Everything PSU touches dies. Rutgers, even further from the Midwest, and the Terps both joined in 2014. Blame NJ, everyone else does.

Hawaii had a miserable football season, finishing 5-7 overall. But finally, there’s a glimmer of hope!

True freshman Micah Alejado made his first career start this past Saturday, leading the Rainbow Warriors to a 38-30 win over New Mexico in the season finale. Micah threw for 469 yards and FIVE TDs. He also ran for 54 yards. He was named the National Freshman of the Week.

His 469 passing yards broke the school’s freshman record that was previously held be current head coach Timmy Chang!

Best of all, because he only played four games this season, he still retains his freshman status for next season.

Seems strange to drop the 'Canes down 6 for a close loss to a 9-3 team. Must be the refs.

Yep, it was the refs.

UM officials reacted angrily and swiftly.

“Really ??” UM athletic director Dan Radakovich said on X. “What put Bama over the top of Miami for the last spot in is that Miami went 1-2 in their last 3 games (by an average of 4.5 pts, to a ranked Syracuse and [Georgia Tech] team that just took [Georgia] to 8OT). Bama went 2-1 (to 5-7 Auburn, destroyed by [Oklahoma], and beat FCS Mercer).”

Bama  I hear billy saying, "I told you so!"

They've got less than a week to reconsider.

Who knows, maybe they'll both get bounced off the bubble.

When a team is great, particularly over time, it tends to pick up (a) bandwagon fans; and (b) haters. But from a fan standpoint, I don't see Bammer being all that important to anyone outside parts of the Southeast. And maybe billy.p's right about SEC refs giving them a break - or maybe not, but it looks irrefutable that they're getting a thumb on the scale in this years selection. So what happens if they end up winning the championship with their 3 losses on record. Will people say "oh, the selection committee was really wise to let them in" or "how can you call a 3-game loss team as "national champions" over several with only one loss, or two including the playoffs? "

:angry-banghead: :angry-banghead: :angry-banghead: I am definitely not so invested in UNC that my fandom will survive this. I might even hate their other sports. I've only barely gotten over hating Texas Tech, the school not just the cagers, for hiring Bobby Knight (2001–2008). :puke-left:

The Guardian's Ollie Connolly reported Friday that Belichick has stipulated his coming to Chapel Hill would require his son Stephen Belichick — the current defensive coordinator at the University of Washington — being named head coach in waiting.

UNC is open to that supposedly and among Belichick's other demands would be hiring Matt Patricia, Ben McDaniels and a sitting general manager that would handle NIL and recruiting. Essentially, he wants to get the band back togeth

Idk any of these people besides Cheatin' Bill. Do you have specific objections or it just the idea of getting the band back together?

"Bill Belichick is closer to becoming the next UNC head coach than once thought"
:puke-left:
Bill Belichick interview shows UNC didn't learn a thing from Mack Brown fiasco
The Tar Heels have reportedly interviewed Belichick for their head coaching vacancy, which is as misguided as it is shocking.

... At first glance, this might seem like a huge coup for the Heels. This is Bill Belichick we're talking about, after all; the fact that he's considering a college job at all is a shock, much less one at a mid-tier ACC program that just wrapped up a 6-6 regular season and hasn't won a conference title since 1980.
Ouch, 44 years!
But the more you wrap your mind around this idea, the more it seems like a disaster waiting to happen — and like a desperate program once again looking for a splashy quick fix rather than building something sustainable.

Bill Belichick would take North Carolina football from bad to worse

Seriously: Belichick has never coached in the college ranks, having jumped straight from a playing career at Wesleyan to an assistant job with the then-Baltimore Colts. He's never had to recruit before, never walked into a high school and glad-handed a head coach. And we also have no idea how much he's been keeping up with the schematic advancements of the college game, much less things like NIL and the transfer portal. And can you imagine Belichick interfacing with a high-powered booster, or taking calls on a weekly radio show?
Killer points.
We've seen this sort of hire backfire spectacularly before. In fact, North Carolina has to look no further than the last few years at their own program; desperate to find some footing in the ACC, the Heels brought Brown back for a second go-around, and after an initial bump, a distinct lack of energy initially left the team exactly where it had started. Why would Belichick be any different?
Opps.
The best case you can make for him is as a glorified CEO, making smart hires and letting them go to work. But since when has Belichick been able to delegate? This is a man who got run out of New England in large part because he refused to cede control over any aspect of the organization. And now he's expected to hire a general manager that knows how to build a recruiting operation, or an up-and-coming offensive coordinator running a version of the Air Raid? UNC has long been considered a sleeping giant in the sport, in a fertile area for talent and armed with plenty of money but with no idea how to take advantage of either. They got themselves here by wanting all sizzle and no steak, and they're about to make the same mistake once again.
Ah, there's a case for not getting the old NFL band back together.

If not UNC . . .

3 NFL teams deranged enough to pair Aaron Rodgers and Bill Belichick in 2025
Which team is bold enough to book a one-way ticket on the Crazy Train?

... It's a tantalizing possibility. Not because it's a remotely smart decision for a franchise in need, but because the #content would be glorious....

3. The Carolina Panthers are dumb and desperate under David Tepper

Tepper is widely considered one of the worst owners in professional sports. He's famous for rash decisions and rampant miscalculations, often meddling too deeply in football affairs for the Carolina Panthers' own good. The result has been one of the worst teams in the NFL for a couple years running — and a real mounting sense of desperation around the organization....
:puke-left: Poor Vrede.
2. Bill Belichick, Aaron Rodgers, and Tom Brady on the Las Vegas Raiders? Why not

... This feels like too much ego in one building, but hey, it's Las Vegas. There isn't a more appropriate venue for the inevitable fireworks.
:puke-left: Poor Jasmine and Vrede.
1. The New York Giants can keep Aaron Rodgers in town with bold pivot
Seriously? What has New York done to deserve Kaaron 2.0 and nemesis Belichick?
... Any team signing Belichick and Rodgers is setting itself up for acute disappointment, but it's an utterly fascinating hypothetical for football fans and fans of absolute chaos. As such, we have no choice but to advocate for it.
