Marine accused of flashing a Nazi salute during the Capitol riot gets almost 5 years in prison

... Tyler Bradley Dykes, of South Carolina, was an active-duty Marine when he grabbed a police riot shield from the hands of two police officers and used it to push his way through police lines during the attack by the mob of then-President Donald Trump's supporters on Jan. 6, 2021.

Dykes, who pleaded guilty in April to assault charges, previously was convicted of a crime stemming from the 2017 white nationalist Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. Dykes was transferred to federal custody in 2023 after he served a six-month sentence in a state prison.

U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell sentenced Dykes, who's 26, to four years and nine months of imprisonment, the Justice Department said.

Federal prosecutors had recommended a prison sentence of five years and three months for Dykes.

... In May 2023, he was discharged from the military under “other than honorable” conditions.

“Rather than honor his oath to protect and defend the Constitution, Dykes’s criminal activity on January 6 shows he was instead choosing to violate it,” prosecutors wrote.

More than 1,400 people have been charged with federal crimes related to the Capitol riot. More than 900 of them have been sentenced, with roughly two-thirds receiving terms of imprisonment ranging from a few days to 22 years.

Trump Will Host January 6th "Awards Gala" in September
Event description: "We gather to pay tribute...to all J6 defendants who have shown incredible courage and sacrifice."

Donald Trump will host a "J6 Awards Gala" at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster on September 5th. Attendees will have a chance to win a plaque commemorating the MAGA community's purchase of numerous copies of Trump's "Justice for All" song, which briefly earned him a spot on the Billboard music chart.

Anthony Raimondi

In his book When the Bullet Hits the Bone, which was published in 2019, Anthony Raimondi (who claims to be a nephew of Lucky Luciano) says he helped his cousin Archbishop Paul Marcinkus kill the pope by putting valium in his tea to knock him out, then poisoning him with cyanide. The reason given was that John Paul had allegedly threatened to expose "a massive stock fraud run by Vatican insiders". Raimondi says that plans were made to also assassinate John Paul II had the latter decided to expose the fraud. Raimondi says that "If they take [the pope's body] and do any type of testing, they will still find traces of the poison in his system."
 Excellent guest speaker. Note that he, DonOLD and Rudy are "Invited Guest Speakers", not confirmed, for an event that's just 2 weeks away. Bait and Switch?

Back to the article:
That song features Trump reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, alternating with January 6th defendants singing the national anthem. Interestingly, attendees at Trump's events often struggle to recite the Pledge and sing along in sync.

... A promotional video for the event shows Trump referring to January 6th rioters as "peaceful" and "J6 hostages," promising pardons and calling for their release. The video includes audio of Trump stating, "There has never been a group of people treated so harshly or unfairly."
 :violin:
... The video also mentions that proceeds from the event will go to a January 6th legal fund. A website promoting the gala describes it as a celebration of Trump's "song" and a tribute to "all January 6th defendants who have shown incredible courage and sacrifice." However, there is no word yet on what specific "awards" will be handed out at the gala or if the event will focus solely on Trump's song with Capitol rioters.

The event has already been postponed once and is now back on. An older flyer reveals that ticket packages range from $2,500 for an individual to $50,000 for a table of 12, with a speaker seated at the table....

Maryland Cop Convicted Of Throwing Smoke Bomb At Capitol Police On Jan. 6
Justin Lee, 26, took a smoke bomb from another rioter and threw it down a tunnel where police were defending the Capitol. He later became a police officer.

A Maryland police officer was found guilty Friday of civil disorder, assaulting police and other charges after he threw a smoke bomb at officers during the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol attack....

U.S. District Judge Trevor McFadden heard two days of trial testimony before finding Lee guilty of two felonies and three misdemeanors.
Trevor N. McFadden was appointed by DonOLD.
:---P
During his testimony, Lee told McFadden he was “trying to make a statement” about police brutality when he threw the smoke bomb.
:wtf:
... Prosecutors said Lee also waved at other Trump supporters to join the mob in overtaking police on the West Plaza.

Six months after the attack in July 2021, Lee became a Montgomery County police officer.
My home. I ran from them a few times
After his arrest in October, Lee was suspended without pay. The department told the AP in a statement that officials will be “moving ahead with termination procedures” now that Lee has been convicted.
Hah! :---P
Lee is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 22.

Physician sentenced to 9 months in prison for punching police officer during Capitol riot

Image
This image from U.S. Capitol Police body-worn video that was in the government sentencing memorandum in the case, shows Jacquelyn Starer, a physician from Massachusetts, striking a police officer in the Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, in Washington. (U.S. Capitol Police via AP)

A Massachusetts medical doctor who punched a police officer during a mob's attack on the U.S. Capitol was sentenced Thursday to nine months of imprisonment followed by nine months of home confinement.

Jacquelyn Starer was in a crowd of rioters inside the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, when she struck the officer with a closed fist and shouted a profane insult....

Starer, 70, of Ashland, Massachusetts, pleaded guilty in April to eight counts, including a felony assault charge, without reaching a plea agreement with prosecutors.
70?!!!
Prosecutors recommended a prison sentence of two years and three months for Starer, a physician who primarily practiced addiction medicine before her arrest. Starer's attorneys asked the judge to sentence her to home confinement instead of incarceration.

Online licensing records indicate that Starer agreed in January 2023 not to practice medicine in Massachusetts. The state issued her a medical license in 1983.
:---P
... In the Rotunda, Starer joined other rioters in trying to push past police officers guarding a passageway to then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office. Starer pushed through other rioters to reach the front of the police line, where she yelled at officers.

When another rioter tried to hold her back, Starer grabbed that person's arm, pushed it down and then shoved against the police line. When one of those officers pushed Starer backward, she turned around and punched the officer....

Starer's attorneys said she recognizes that she likely has treated her last patient.

“Her inability to do the work she loves so much has left a very large hole in her life which she struggles to fill,” they wrote.
:violin: MAGAts are too stupid to be MDs.
Nearly 1,500 people have been charged with Capitol riot-related federal crimes. More than 900 of them have been convicted and sentenced, with roughly two-thirds receiving a term of imprisonment ranging from a few days to 22 years.

DOJ charges two brothers in Jan. 6 assault on a New York Times photographer
The case frustrated online "sedition hunters," who said they long ago connected the two men to the assault.

Two brothers from Pennsylvania and New Jersey who allegedly assaulted a New York Times photographer and stole her camera after they stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, were arrested by the FBI on Thursday.

Philip Walker, a 52-year-old from Upper Chichester, Pennsylvania, and David Walker, a 49-year-old from Delran, New Jersey, face charges of forcibly taking an item from a person and assault with the intent to commit another felony, as well as other standard Jan. 6 misdemeanors for entering the Capitol. Philip Walker faces a separate charge of willfully and maliciously destroying personal property, for allegedly discarding the camera in a body of water....

Ohio pastor who urged on Jan. 6 mob with bullhorn sentenced to prison

William Dunfee, 59, was sentenced to two and a half years in prison and three years of supervised release, according to the Department of Justice (DOJ), which added that he was ordered to pay a $10,000 fine and $2,000 restitution.

“His actions and the actions of others disrupted a joint session of the U.S. Congress convened to ascertain and count the electoral votes related to the 2020 presidential election,” the DOJ said in a statement.

Dunfee was convicted in January of two felony charges — obstruction of an official proceeding or aiding and abetting, and civil disorder — and one misdemeanor of entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds.

According to authorities, court documents showed that Dunfee posted a video to social media in December 2020 telling his congregation in Warsaw, Ohio, that “The Government, the tyrants, the socialists, the Marxists, the progressives, the RINOs, they fear you. And they should. Our problem is we haven’t given them reason to fear us.”

“January 4th through 6th … Are you ready?” he added.

The department also said Dunfee illegally entered Capitol grounds on Jan. 6 and used a bullhorn to exhort the crowd. In a separate video at the Capitol, Dunfee allegedly tells the mob that the election “has been stolen.”

“This election has been stolen right out from underneath of our noses, and it is time for the American people to rise up. Rise up. Rise up. Today is the day in which it is that these elected officials realize that we are no longer playing games. That we are not sheeple that are just going to be corralled according to their whims and their wills,” Dunfee said in the video filmed at the Capitol, the DOJ said....

Mini Poop Statues Appear At D.C.’s Mysterious Turd Monument ‘Honoring’ Trump
“A monument isn't a real monument until cheap souvenirs are involved,” reads an email from the anonymous group behind the statue mocking Jan. 6, 2021, rioters.

It’s been two weeks since a mysterious satirical poop monument appeared by the U.S. Capitol, “honoring” former President Donald Trump and the people behind the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection with a massive turd.

Early Monday morning ― one day before the presidential election ― the anonymous group behind the installation made some new additions: free souvenirs, in the form of mini-poop statues and postcards....

A group called Civic Crafted LLC got a permit from the National Park Service to put up the monument....

One statue appeared in a park public in Philadelphia last week to “honor” Trump for a “lifetime of sexual assault.” A similar monument popped up in Portland, Oregon. A second statue appeared last week in D.C., this time a tiki torch monument offering a “tribute” to Trump for referring to his supporters who marched in a 2017 white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, as “very fine people.”

... The new souvenirs from this monument are just brown pieces of fake poop on a base with a plaque that reads, “Trump National Jan. 6 Memorial.”

The mini statues were gone by the time HuffPost stopped by early Monday. But there was still a stack of free postcards on a tiny table available for the taking. They feature an image of Trump’s smiling face next to the U.S. Capitol with the turd monument centered in the picture. In bold postcard-like font, it reads, “Trump National Jan. 6th Monument.”

A security guard posted by the installation said the mini-statues were gone in “no time.” More were expected to be delivered later in the day.

HuffPost arrived at the monument as the leader of a group of high school students from around the country was explaining to them that it was satirical. They appeared amused as she read aloud the plaque.

“Satirical, when they say ‘honors’ the brave men and women,” said one male student.

“Who broke into the United States Capitol to loot, urinate and defecate throughout those hallowed halls,” continued the group leader.

“To honor them,” the student said with a laugh.

Image

... Jennifer, who works for the federal Bureau of Prisons, agreed the monument is funny but said it is also “incredibly sad” because it’s a reminder that people still have to say that the violent attack on the Capitol carried out by Trump supporters ― which was aimed at preventing Joe Biden from being certified as the president ― was a bad thing.

“It was literally a shit show, because people shat in there,” she fumed. “This whole, like, ‘We’re 1776 patriots.’ Do you really think George Washington was going places and taking a dump and smearing it, as the constitutional army rolled through?”

The first rioter tried on Jan. 6 charges gets reduced prison sentence after Supreme Court decision

This headline worried me.
A Texas man who was the first rioter to go on trial for the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol was resentenced on Friday to nearly seven years in prison after he delivered an angry, profane rant to the judge who agreed to modestly reduce his original sentence.

Guy Reffitt benefitted from a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that led to the dismissal of his conviction on an obstruction charge. His new sentence — six years and eight months — is seven months lower than his original sentence.
Reffitt repeatedly shook his head and appeared to be agitated as he listened to U.S. District Judge Dabney Friedrich and a prosecutor describe his role in a mob's attack on the Capitol. He told the judge that he was “in my feelings” and upset about the “lies and the craziness” that he perceived.
:violin:
“I was not there to take over no government,” Reffitt said. “I love this country.”

“No one has a problem with your feelings,” the judge said. “It's the actions you took with your feelings.”
:---P
Reffitt stormed the Captiol with a holstered handgun on his waist. He also was carrying zip-tie handcuffs and wearing body armor and a helmet equipped with a video camera when he advanced on police officers outside the building. He retreated after an officer pepper sprayed him in the face, but he waved on other rioters who ultimately breached the building.

Prosecutors said Reffitt told fellow members of the Texas Three Percenters militia group that he planned to drag House Speaker Nancy Pelosi out of the Capitol building by her ankles, “with her head hitting every step on the way down.”
Moron.
... A jury convicted Reffitt of four other counts, including a charge that he threatened his two teenage children after returning to their in home in Wylie, Texas, after the riot. Reffitt’s son Jackson, then 19, testified that his father told him and his younger sister, then 16, that they would be traitors if they reported him to authorities and warned them that “traitors get shot.”
Asshole.
Prosecutors said Reffitt’s recent communications from jail indicate that he “views his imprisonment as an injustice and as part of a greater cause, and that he maintains pride in actions on January 6 and his involvement in the community of those who he believes have been wrongly prosecuted for their crimes on that day.”
   I'm so happy that he's LOCKED UP and will stay that way for years. :angry-banghead: :angry-banghead: :angry-banghead:
More than 1,500 people have been charged with Capitol riot-related crimes. About 1,000 of them have pleaded guilty. Roughly 250 others have been convicted by a judge or jury after a trial.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/cheney-respo ... 06071.html

“Here is the truth: Donald Trump attempted to overturn the 2020 presidential election and seize power. He mobilized an angry mob and sent them to the United States Capitol, where they attacked police officers, invaded the building and halted the official counting of electoral votes. Trump watched on television as police officers were brutally beaten and the Capitol was assaulted, refusing for hours to tell the mob to leave.

“This was the worst breach of our Constitution by any president in our nation’s history. Donald Trump’s suggestion that members of Congress who later investigated his illegal and unconstitutional actions should be jailed is a continuation of his assault on the rule of law and the foundations of our republic.”

-- Former Rep Liz Cheney (R-WY)

“First off, the executive branch can’t go after the legislative branch because we embarrassed him. That’s not a sin, that’s not against the law. So, look, he’s all butt hurt right now because he was embarrassed. He’s not going to come after us, and I’m not worried about it at all.”
-- Former Rep Adam Kinzinger (R-IL)

Also:
Bring It On, Donald: The January 6 Committee Stands on Truth
Adam Kinzinger

Donald Trump’s latest threat to “jail” members of the January 6 Committee is nothing more than the desperate howl of a man who knows history will regard him with shame. Let me be clear: we did nothing wrong. The January 6 Committee's work was driven by facts, the Constitution, and the pursuit of accountability—principles that seem foreign to Trump.

If Donald wants to pursue this vindictive fantasy, I say bring it on. I’m not intimidated by a man whose actions on January 6th showed a cowardly disregard for democracy and the rule of law. A man too frightened to serve in the military, and a who requires a strong man like Putin to feel secure. While his supporters were attacking the Capitol, Trump sat in the White House, watching in glee as law enforcement and elected officials scrambled to protect our republic....

Donald, go ahead and try to rewrite history. Use your platform to deflect blame, point fingers, and play the victim. But the evidence speaks louder than your words. History will remember the January 6 Committee as defenders of democracy—and you, as a man who betrayed it.

... I’m confident that the name “Trump” will be a stain on our history, and my son will be proud of what I did.

So, bring it on. We aren’t afraid of the truth, but I suspect you are.

The assholes are going for it:
GOP report recommends Liz Cheney be criminally investigated over Jan. 6 work

... The suggestion and the panel’s report at large was excoriated by Cheney.

“January 6th showed Donald Trump for who is really is – a cruel and vindictive man who allowed violent attacks to continue against our Capitol and law enforcement officers while he watched television and refused for hours to instruct his supporters to stand down and leave,” Cheney said in a statement noting the numerous Republican witnesses who testified before the panel.

“Chairman [Barry] Loudermilk’s (R-Ga.) ‘Interim Report’ intentionally disregards the truth and the Select Committee’s tremendous weight of evidence, and instead fabricates lies and defamatory allegations in an attempt to cover up what Donald Trump did. Their allegations do not reflect a review of the actual evidence, and are a malicious and cowardly assault on the truth. No reputable lawyer, legislator or judge would take this seriously.”
:---P :---P
... Loudermilk, chair of the subcommittee that assembled the report, was previously scrutinized by the disbanded House panel after he gave tours of the Capitol to two men who later participated in the march to the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021....

I consider Trump like living with earthquakes and wildfires. You know they're real, and that they pose some danger but you can't spend every day worrying about it and there's nothing you can do about it.
