2024 Elections

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Interesting, GoCubsGo (AOC). They seem all over the map, embracing both her brilliance and his demented stupidity.

Here's my take from watching a few people I personally know evolve: These people have always been more on the skeptical side and distrustful of the establishment.

I understand the skepticism and rebelliousness, but I think they're naive if they think DonOLD represents a path for positive change. He's an old school science-denying christofascist, planning to lead us to some very dark places.

There's also a large contingent of people you'd typically associate with identifying with the left that threw their support behind Trump. A good amount of "hippy", nature loving, au-natural" types seem to be drawn to him.
Why?
Here's my take from watching a few people I personally know evolve: These people have always been more on the skeptical side and distrustful of the establishment. They typically vote third party, or at least align with third party candidates. They're heavily into things like natural foods, natural medicines, and so forth. Covid happened and they saw the government pushing us to get vaccines and that played into that skepticism and paranoia. They consume a lot of media from things like YouTube, tiktok, and so forth. They have a penchant for believing in conspiracy theories and "connecting the dots" and not trusting traditional media. I personally think there's also a large dash of narcissism (and I think that is especially important) as well in that they lack the self doubt to question things they instinctively agree with. At least with the people I know. They have an overconfidence in their own ability to discern what they see as "truth" and view others who accept facts contrary to their personal beliefs as sheep being spoon fed propaganda from mainstream media. Just because something is touted by the mainstream media doesn't mean it's automatically incorrect or part of an agenda. But they don't see that.

In any case, I think a lot of the above came together and they saw Trump as the outsider that establishment was afraid of. He openly talks about some of the more conspriational topics they latch onto (for example, the deep state and so forth). He surrounds himself with people that likewise do the same.

That's what I see too, people that claim they are "skeptical" but are really anything but. They seem to only be skeptical about things they already personally disagree with and will not challenge themselves in the same way when they agree with the topic.

It's like a fake form of skepticism.

 You're skeptical of their skepticism. C'mon, TikTok wouldn't lie.

Warren: Trump transition ‘already breaking the law’

... “Donald Trump and his transition team are already breaking the law,” Warren said in a post on the social platform X. “I would know because I wrote the law. Incoming presidents are required to prevent conflicts of interest and sign an ethics agreement.”

“This is what illegal corruption looks like,” she added.
GoLizGo! My homey:
... Last month, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) raised concerns in a letter to Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance over their campaign’s failure to enter into presidential transition agreements with the federal government. Raskin warned that the delay could have an unfavorable impact on the transfer of power in the upcoming year.

“Breaking the precedent set by every other presidential candidate since 2010, you have rejected these resources and refused to commit to a smooth transition,” Raskin wrote.

“Your actions depart from well-established norms of the federal government and demonstrate a spectacular disregard for the successful continuation of the essential institutions of American democratic government,” he added....

So true. For example:
'Unhinged': Trump's Brazen New 'Investigation' Demand Has Critics Sounding The Alarm
The president-elect is taking his election fraud claims to an unexpected new level.

President-elect Donald Trump is calling for an investigation into famed Iowa pollster J. Ann Selzer, whose final poll of the state incorrectly found Vice President Kamala Harris with a lead....

Selzer’s poll, released days before the election, found Harris with a 3-point lead in Iowa. Trump won the state by 13 points....
This is crazy but he’s actually going to do 90% of this shit. He’s unhinged.

Image
Oh my god.

When are people going to realize it’s all going to be as bad as we think it’s going to be?
If you don't think Donald Trump is gonna harass anyone who spoke against him, you're not paying attention.

Bro wants to investigate Ann Selzer for a poll?

Seriously?
Nobody likes a sore winner.
Investigating people for polls you don't like doesn't seem particularly free speechy.
Imagine being so fucking insecure that you:

1. Win the election
2. Win the popular vote
3. Have people literally chanting your name like you're Dear Leader

....and you go still want to go after a fucking pollster who came out with a bad poll?

Sure, it's fascist, but its also just fucking sad.
Wait, shouldn't WE be the ones who are mad about this poll?
This is actually insane. Like, even more insane than Trump's usual insanity. He's talking about using the government to punish anyone who reports any information he doesn't like. See also Viktor Orbán's Hungary.
These kind of threats will have a chilling effect on free speech. Defending against an investigation like this can financially ruin someone.
He can’t be content with proving that the poll was wrong. He has to seek revenge. This is what you voted for, Republicans.
They know.
We got ourselves a bona fide dictator here
he won, why can't he just give it a fucking rest? the worst sore winner in history.
A Trump 2.0 regime will be at least as bad as some of us think, and probably worse than most do.
More replies at the link.

Good news/Bad news: On Jan 21 TRE45QN will be a lame duck.

I have no doubt that Trump will attempt to do whatever he wants at the time, much of which will have baaaaad and sometimes lasting effects. But I don't think he or his amateur Cabinet nominees have even the slightest clue as to how much work and time is necessary to bring about significant change in a large and dug-in bureaucracy. I suppose the easiest thing might be do lop off entire departments without any actual analysis or review, but for the most part that would be self-defeating. Equally easy, and less risky, would be to tell the Departments just to do nothing. Enforce nothing, research nothing, yada. Somewhat like DeVos tried with Education last Trump regime. And like they did with Labor. But if they actually want to retain the function but change the direction, they've got a big job on their hands - much bigger than they think.

Apostrophe-challenged infantile pic much?

I was one for two. TRE45QN has wrecked the GOP and turned it into a sycophantic, like you, cult that won't survive 2028 or DonOLD's death, whichever comes first. As for the win:

Poor baby. :violin:

Always good to see delusional MAGAt dumbasses exaggerate their position.

Not even half of the voters. Opps.

Election 2024: Presidential results

Kamala Harris: 48.3% of popular vote (74,063,120 votes)
Donald Trump: 49.9% of popular vote (76,656,104 votes)

Top cop - Goofy Gaetz
Top warrior - Faux Noise host Pete Hegseth
Health chief - KINO
Homeland defense - Kristi Noem
Parks and Indians - Doug Burgum
Intel - Moscow asset Tulsi Gabbard
Environment - LOL AGW denying LOL Lee Zeldin
UN - diplomacy bereft Elise Stefanik
WH Deputy - Stephen Miller
DOGE - the comedy duo of trio of EmptyG, Vivek & Elon
White supremacist Hungarian Nazi Sebastian Gorka
His daughters' FILs, including a felon
"Little" Marco Rubio for State
Secretary of education: Wrestling mogul Linda McMahon
Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services administrator: TV Dr. Mehmet Oz
U.S. ambassador to Israel: Has-been ex-Gov of our worst state Mike Huckabee
FBI director: Wingnut Kash Patel

Damn, your team really really hates America. :puke-left:

P.S. CFPR #17 #12, playoffs iffy - AP #18 after losing to rival SC, playoffs less likely - sad.
Plus, likely lost a net 2 seats in the already unmanageable, unproductive, EmptyG-led House.

Crickets = Ongoing butthurt cowardice, typical Trumpette.
Then, there's getting you so emasculated that you're now searching back 4 years for posts in order to boast about less than 50% of "The American voter". That's a HUGE WIN for me. Thank you!

Romania’s top court annuls presidential election result

Romania’s constitutional court has annulled the first round of the country’s 2024 presidential election process, which was narrowly won by far-right ultranationalist candidate Calin Georgescu amid allegations of Russian interference....

They also showed how Georgescu was boosted by potential interference on TikTok – the social media platform on which he largely ran his campaign – through algorithms, coordinated accounts and paid promotion, Reuters reported.
TV news said that tens of thousands of dormant TikTok accounts activated a few days before the election. Some had been quiet for up to 8 years. They all linked to pro-Georgescu politics. :angry-cussing:
... A Romanian official on Wednesday described Georgescu’s success in the first round as shocking. They told CNN that his victory would be “an extraordinary triumph for… (Russian President Vladimir) Putin” and “would cancel the whole progress that Romania has made in the past 35 years.”

Georgescu centered his campaign on tackling the country’s cost of living crisis, and vowed to end Romania’s support for Ukraine. Romania shares a 400-mile border with its northern neighbor and under its previous presidency helped export millions of tons of grain out of the war-stricken country....

“I’m here today to protest against this fascist movement that is coming here, to Romania, against this leader that they have, Calin Georgescu, who appeared out of nowhere, clearly sponsored by Putin and by Moscow and we’re fighting against all the things that went wrong during this campaign,” one demonstrator called Mihai told Reuters....
Thank goodness for an independent judiciary and concerned citizens.
