Here's my take from watching a few people I personally know evolve: These people have always been more on the skeptical side and distrustful of the establishment.

There's also a large contingent of people you'd typically associate with identifying with the left that threw their support behind Trump. A good amount of "hippy", nature loving, au-natural" types seem to be drawn to him.

Why?

Here's my take from watching a few people I personally know evolve: These people have always been more on the skeptical side and distrustful of the establishment. They typically vote third party, or at least align with third party candidates. They're heavily into things like natural foods, natural medicines, and so forth. Covid happened and they saw the government pushing us to get vaccines and that played into that skepticism and paranoia. They consume a lot of media from things like YouTube, tiktok, and so forth. They have a penchant for believing in conspiracy theories and "connecting the dots" and not trusting traditional media. I personally think there's also a large dash of narcissism (and I think that is especially important) as well in that they lack the self doubt to question things they instinctively agree with. At least with the people I know. They have an overconfidence in their own ability to discern what they see as "truth" and view others who accept facts contrary to their personal beliefs as sheep being spoon fed propaganda from mainstream media. Just because something is touted by the mainstream media doesn't mean it's automatically incorrect or part of an agenda. But they don't see that.

In any case, I think a lot of the above came together and they saw Trump as the outsider that establishment was afraid of. He openly talks about some of the more conspriational topics they latch onto (for example, the deep state and so forth). He surrounds himself with people that likewise do the same.

That's what I see too, people that claim they are "skeptical" but are really anything but. They seem to only be skeptical about things they already personally disagree with and will not challenge themselves in the same way when they agree with the topic.

It's like a fake form of skepticism.

I have no doubt that Trump will attempt to do whatever he wants at the time, much of which will have baaaaad and sometimes lasting effects. But I don't think he or his amateur Cabinet nominees have even the slightest clue as to how much work and time is necessary to bring about significant change in a large and dug-in bureaucracy. I suppose the easiest thing might be do lop off entire departments without any actual analysis or review, but for the most part that would be self-defeating. Equally easy, and less risky, would be to tell the Departments just to do nothing. Enforce nothing, research nothing, yada. Somewhat like DeVos tried with Education last Trump regime. And like they did with Labor. But if they actually want to retain the function but change the direction, they've got a big job on their hands - much bigger than they think.

Romania’s top court annuls presidential election result

Romania’s constitutional court has annulled the first round of the country’s 2024 presidential election process, which was narrowly won by far-right ultranationalist candidate Calin Georgescu amid allegations of Russian interference....

They also showed how Georgescu was boosted by potential interference on TikTok – the social media platform on which he largely ran his campaign – through algorithms, coordinated accounts and paid promotion, Reuters reported.

TV news said that tens of thousands of dormant TikTok accounts activated a few days before the election. Some had been quiet for up to 8 years. They all linked to pro-Georgescu politics.

... A Romanian official on Wednesday described Georgescu’s success in the first round as shocking. They told CNN that his victory would be “an extraordinary triumph for… (Russian President Vladimir) Putin” and “would cancel the whole progress that Romania has made in the past 35 years.”

Georgescu centered his campaign on tackling the country’s cost of living crisis, and vowed to end Romania’s support for Ukraine. Romania shares a 400-mile border with its northern neighbor and under its previous presidency helped export millions of tons of grain out of the war-stricken country....
