Let's apply the ummm, "reasoning" of those most adamantly opposed to same sex marriage to other topics. Their ummm, "reasoning" is for the most part exclusively religious-based, although not always just Christianity. It is largely the same basis for most, though not all, anti-abortionists. For some reason, lots of people are willing to give them a pass because of their "sincerely held religious belief" but what if...

They argued for stricter or more lenient gun laws not from a Constitutional standpoint, but based on one obscure and arcane passage in the Old Testament.

1 Timothy 5:23 was used as a basis to require physicians to first prescribe wine before dispensing any other medication and to prohibit sale of water in containers larger than 12 ounces... "Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities."

Well, some people do use Biblical references to justify their own actions, but they don't usually get by with blatantly saying "we want to apply Biblical law to this secular circumstance." Why have people accepted that ummmm, "logic" from the homophobic bigots?
