Fire/EMS/ERs/disasters, etc.

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Didn't think of that. But that would explain why all the prayers for rain or stopping winds aren't working.

There's 1700 fire trucks and thousands of firefighters from 10 different states plus units from Mexico and Canada, and they're still not even keeping up. Somebody explain how anybody could be "prepared" for this.

Trump said they needed to turn the water on from San Francisco to take care of it.

Oh, and they're not very bright.

Dean Cain predicts California wildfire catastrophe will change how Hollywood votes

Cain placed the blame squarely on Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom.

"You screwed up, Gavin Newsom. You screwed up," he said. "There was plenty of water. Last year was record rainfall or the year before, record rainfall. Snowmelt, reservoir the water."

One fire expert: There's not a city hydrant system in the world that could have stopped these blazes. Grow up and admit, cons.

Things that can help during the rebuilding and beyond:
AGW prevention and mitigation
Fire-resistant construction
Home/business water pipes that self-seal rather than bleeding pressure away, and/or the ability to cut off neighborhoods remotely
Fire-resistant development (firebreaks, access and egress). Eminent domain as needed
Drought-resistant landscaping
Brush clearing

Congressman Warren Davidson claimed funds should be withheld until the Golden State changes forestry management policies.

 Like an Ohio pol has any clue about California forest management. Plus, a huge chunk of California forests are federal, not state. Duh. For example, Eaton Canyon, origin of the fire that has wiped out much of Altadena, is in the Angeles National Forest:

I'll bet that Warren Davidson has never introduced any forestry bills. He doesn't sit on any environment or disaster related committees.

Why do they always seem to overlook that it's primarily national forests that are burning?

It's all about partisanship, not anything resembling patriotism or honest accountability.
I believe:

The Palisades Fire began on state park land or on nearby private land. It burned in several state parks, the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, and a huge area of private land.

The Eaton Fire originated on or near the Angeles National Forest. It burned a huge area in Altadena. I'm not sure if any state lands are involved.

Another RWer running away from the AGW cause is this Stepford Podcaster:

Donald Trump’s Disaster-Hijacking Playbook Exposed By Expert On Right-Wing Media
Nicole Hemmer also explored the potent cocktail — involving the president-elect — that means "everything just feels worse all the time."

Nicole Hemmer — an expert on conservative and right-wing media, and the effect they have had on American politics — this week explained Donald Trump’s penchant for whipping up anger and causing division amid tragedies and disasters.

“It definitely is the case that this is something Trump does, right?” Hemmer, an associate professor of history at Vanderbilt University, asked The New Republic’s Greg Sargent in the latest episode of his podcast, “The Daily Blast,” which was released Thursday....

Hemmer told Sargent:

You and I grew up in a period where we had the Oklahoma City bombing, the Columbine shootings, so many different natural disasters. And they have been these moments when people found a kind of common humanity. I don’t want to paint too rosy a picture of it, but I do think that there’s something substantially different about entering that moment and saying, ‘Actually, the person responsible for your problems are my political enemies, and instead of focusing on rebuilding, you should focus on hating them.’

Sargent suggested it was part of a “full-on right-wing MAGA effort to degrade public life” with everything “about seizing on every opportunity to spread deranged conspiracy theories” and “turn people against each other.”...
Truth.

Home that survived Palisades fire is split in half by landslide. 'This is devastating'

A Los Angeles Department of Water and Power worker inspects a Pacific Palisades home that survived the Palisades fire, only to be destroyed in a landslide.

So, step-bro's house did survive but they think it could be up to two years before they can move back in from smoke and environmental damage from all the toxins that burned in the area.

Obviously, widespread urban fires have many more toxic components than a forest fire.
